She wasn't supposed to be doubting anything. Hiccup and Stoick, they are her family. Her life, her happiness, her everything, despite how little she knew Hiccup or how long she had chosen to never come back to Stoick. Her heart was supposed to be pounding with joy and excitement instead of fear and doubt.
But this other life, she had decided to choose this—the Dragons.
Stoick wasn't supposed to welcome her back with open arms and make her knees go weak. He was supposed to feel betrayed, hurt, or whatever it takes to make her feel less guilty about her choice.
And then her ears caught a familiar whistle.
It made her heart clench even more painfully at hearing those perfectly arranged melody that she thought it might just break forever in guilt. She deserved at least that much. What she did was unforgivable, and she too believe she deserved a good amount of heartache. She was a mother, a wife, and she had chosen to throw it all away to go after what she believes in. Stoick wasn't supposed to look at her so dearly with those strong-willed eyes.
And then his deep, lovely voice that Valka had missed dearly started singing.
"I'll swim and sail on savage seas
With ne'er a fear of drowning,
And gladly ride the waves of life
If you will marry me."
Stop, she wanted to whisper as she felt the heavy stare of Stoick on her. I'm not worthy.
"No scorching sun,
Nor freezing cold,
Will stop me on my journey,
If you will promise me your heart,"
As she heard Stoick's heavy step neared closer to her, it took everything she had not to break down in tears. Can she do this again after throwing away every thoughts on the possibility of love?
"And love me…"
Valka bit her inner cheek as Stoick waited longingly in full hope. It was so, so easy. All she had to do was take that awaiting hand of his and be happy once again. All she had to do was to turn around and dance and everything would be just fine. If she had feared Stoick not wanting her back in the past, now she knew he wanted her back.
But I've left, it was what I had chosen to. It was unforgivable, and I don't deserve you after all that.
And Valka believe that Stoick understood why she was hesitating. She believed that he knew, that she feared she might leave again someday and break his heart all over again. But his voice, his longing look, his hopeful arm, everything reminded her of why she had fallen in love with the Son of the Chief of Berk that day long ago in their youthful memory. Of why they worked it out the first time, of why Stoick was willing to try again after he had seen the wrongs in his path and seen the rights in hers.
Everything went unquestioned after that.
She opened her mouth, decision made. "…Love me for eternity," she sang softly, letting herself sink into the nostalgic days.
She sang and danced, laughed and cried. Because she knew from the way he smiled and the way he took her into his arms, that as far as he concerned, nothing went wrong with their love from the very beginning.
And with steady, dancing steps, she would make sure it will go that way until eternity.
The End
And as we all know, it didn't end quite happily, but this moment in that movie, it was golden. It was beautiful and I know I'm not the only person who cried in the cinema. Thank you for reading and reviewing.
Love,
Raiha
