What Do Daddies Do?
Sammy had never heard of Father's Day before, but when the teacher said they would be making cards he got very excited—he loved to draw. He was handed a piece of blank card and the kids at his table shared a box of crayons. Sammy sat and thought for a moment about what he would draw—he wanted this Father's Day card to be perfect.
Sammy hadn't been here long enough to learn everybody's names yet, but just as he was finishing his drawing of a red brick house, the car and his family—Daddy, Dean and himself—a girl on the other side of the class raised her arm. "What do daddies do?" she asked the teacher.
Sammy looked up because he wanted to hear the answer—he wanted to be sure his card was okay. "That's a good question," the teacher said, nodding in thought. "Daddies look after you. If you want help with anything you just ask and they'll help you. Daddies work very hard to make you happy."
Sammy considered his card. Then he opened it, found a crayon—the only one not being used was a fragile green one—and, carefully, wrote:
To Dean.
THE END
Author's Note: Do I get bonus points for shoehorning the word of the week in? Ha ha! I just couldn't not write this drabble this week—it is Father's Day after all. (The crayon is symbolic for Dean, okay? Okay.) Thanks for reading! :)
