Barbie and McDreamy

"Hello?"

Meredith let out a sigh, "Addison," she sniffed, "It's uh, it's me. Meredith."

"Meredith? Are you ok? You're not pregnant are you?" She joked,

Meredith laughed shortly through a sob, "No. God, no, I'm not pregnant." She wiped her eyes,

"Where are you?"

"The hospital." Meredith said, "An on call room."

"Are you ok?"

"No." Meredith cried, "No. It's Izzie… She has cancer."

Addison sighed, and locked the door in her office in L.A, she closed all the blinds and sat at her couch, "I heard."

"I don't think she'll make it Addison,"

"Stevens is strong." Addison said softly, "She can fight cancer."

"She can't fight surgery." Meredith cried, "I'm supposed to be marrying Derek, I should be choosing cake and colours and dresses and hating every moment of it, not wearing fake smiles as I do whatever Izzie asks me to. I shouldn't be giving into her cancer eyes and trying on dress after dress after dress. It shouldn't be like this Addison. It should be me and Derek in city hall with her pouting and complaining the whole time."

Addison paled, "You're marrying Derek?"

"Sorry."

"No. No it's fine. I knew it would happen; that he'd get re married- To you. I knew it. But it's just…"

"Really strange?" Meredith asked, "Because it is. It's freaking terrifying."

"Meredith, are you calling me because you're having cold feet about your wedding or because you're scared of loosing Izzie?"

"Both?"

"Derek's a great guy."

"But look what happened before. How do I know he won't be absent with me? That I won't get drunk and sleep with someone else?"

"Because you're better then I am." Addison said, "You would never sleep with someone else. And you would never put up with his absence. You'd call him out on it. You'd confront him the second he pulled away."

Meredith sniffed, "What about Izzie?"

"Give the wedding to her."

"What?" Meredith asked,

"She's planned the whole thing. And this could be her last chance, she knows what it's like to loose the person you love, and she would never want Alex to go through that. Give her and Karev the wedding, then take Derek to city hall and become the Mrs Shepherd I could never be."

Meredith smiled softly and wiped the last of her tears from her face, "Thank you… Addison."

"You're welcome Meredith." Addison said gently. She was about to hang up the phone when;

"Addison,"

"Yes Meredith?"

Meredith swallowed, she'd promised herself she'd never do this, say this, even acknowledge it as truth even though deep down she knew it was true, "I…" her heart beat rapidly and she blinked and fumbled on her words, "I… uh…"

"Meredith?"

She couldn't do it, "Nothing just… I just wanted to say uh… Take care now, Addison."

A soft grin pulled at Addison's features, "You too, Meredith." She murmured before she hung up and sighed in contentment.
