Requiem
Legolas remembers. Slash.
----------------------
I will not forget.
You are the one who brought me hope when I thought I could find none, the one who brought me happiness, even if you never saw it.
I will not forget.
You are the one who made me something different, from the cynical creature I used to be, who believed nothing of the world, who thought that it would all come to nothing, that no glory was to be found in this place, and nothing had anything, no love without woe.
I will not forget.
You are the one who made me love, from the endless towers to the white citadel, and you are the one who made me despair, for you will never know of it. But I was happier this way, knowing you were happy with the love of your life, of your unforgettably mortal life, with the love of your choice.
But I will not forget.
You are the one who smiled at me on the first day we met, you were the one who gave. And I was the one, eventually, who caved into the ineveitable and fell in love with you. I remember that day, such a clumsy, awkward meeting we had. You, young and naive, and I, much older, much wiser, and yet not. You had something that I could never understand. And, as you know, I love to puzzle over questions which I cannot answer.
I remember well the night we shared together, that night after the wizard fell, and it seemed all was lost in even the most perfect of places. I remember how you found solace in me, and how desperate I was to tell you how much I cared, but I did not, because you did not. You did not care for me in the way I hoped. But that night remains as one of my most precious memories, of you, the source of my hope.
Now I fly over Sea, and take my love for both your mortal shell and your immortal soul to the Havens, and there it shall remain forever, immortal, complete. There it will be evergreen, perfect, everlasting.
But for me, but a memory, and as for you, Elfstone, you shall never know. Imperfection. Therefore, my love, cleanest and purest of all things, is broken in two. I have only half a heart, because the other half belonged to you, and without knowing, you crushed it in the palm of your old, weakened hand with your final breath.
So I'll remember. Did you remember me at the end...? Old friend? Old love?
Requiem.
