"Maya, come on, I'm starving!" Riley shouted to Maya.

Riley and Smackle were waiting for Maya right outside of her dorm room. Maya opened the door, looking completely disheveled.

"Sorry, I was napping. Give me five!" Maya said. "Maya… it's 5:30 in the evening," said Smackle.

Maya was throwing on one of her most classic outfits: a vintage band tee and ripped jeans. Her blonde hair didn't even need brushing because it was so perfect.

"Smackle, university students need naps. It's a fact, and I hope that one day you experience the wonderful feeling of one," Maya said, poking fun at organized Smackle, who has claimed to not like naps.

The girls all lived on the same floor in Smith dormitory and they were all in their first year of undergraduate studies at NYU. They lived living on campus, but meal plans weren't the greatest because they had all felt like they had reached their limit of cafeteria food, and it was only December! Exams were in session, which meant everybody was working hard and grinding, even Maya- albeit with the occasional need for afternoon naps before dinner. The girls were lucky, because their dorm building was connected to the dining hall, so they didn't even have to wear jackets.

Once they got to their cafeteria table, they ran to the pasta station. The lines at the pasta station were always so long, and they were starving. Once they sat down and started to eat, while Riley was grateful for being a student at NYU, she couldn't help but complain, "…Wow, they managed to put even more salt in the alfredo today," Riley said with a sad face. "Riles, that's why you make yourself a grilled cheese! Ta-da!" Maya said, as she took a bite of her sandwich.

Just then, two other guys came to the table: Lucas and Zay. They also lived in their building and had talked to them a couple of times. The girls didn't know the boys very well, but they seemed nice. Lucas and Zay had been best friends since the beginning of the year, and they were inseparable. Despite only being in first year, they were both tall and built, looking older than their age.

"Ladies of Smith, whassup?" Zay said.

"Exam season is finally upon us, but other than that, we're good. How are you guys?" Maya said.

"Horrible," said Zay. "The people on our floor are out of control."

"Yeah, I heard them screaming all the way by the lake. Don't they have exams to study for?" said Smackle.

"The engineering students finished their hardest exam, and now they have a week-long break before their very last exam," said Lucas.

They all started sharing funny stories about drunken moments they had since the beginning of university. Riley didn't say a word for the whole dinner though- she had always felt a little shy around Lucas. She had met him during orientation week and thought he was really cute, but after creeping him a bit on social media, she realized that he had a girlfriend and they had been together for over 4 years. He was totally off-limits. Still, she always said hi to him and asked him how he was, but never more than that. Zay was the more outspoken one and was always saying hello to the girls. He was the tough one, while Lucas was the softer one.

The guys finished their dinner, said goodbye and left. Maya had noticed how quiet Riley was and decided to grill her. "So, Riley. Lucas is pretty cute, eh?" Riley's eyes widened, "I mean, yeah I guess. He's nice."

"Riles, it sounds like somebody's got a tiny crush!" said Smackle.

"Oh please, I don't have a crush! Crushes don't happen in university!"

"What kind of bullshit logic is that Riley? It's just a crush. Crushes come and go. You'll get over it. Especially if he has a girlfriend." Maya said. "Now come on, let's go. We've all got some studying to do."

"Aw, look at you, all studious!" said Smackle.

The girls laughed and made their way back to the dorm.
