It was strange how her face haunted his dreams at night. Her face close to his and her hand on his cheek. Every night his saw her. He saw her even after Mai started kissing him. Mai was important to him and he loved her, he was pretty sure. The girl haunted his dreams though and he couldn't understand it at all. He'd wake up in a sweat. Her Face still burned into his memory.

Even after he had left his dream he could almost smell her. She was always there. His name on her lips. She whispered it so reverently. He wished, sometimes, that he had chosen her side. He rethought that night every day. Every dream made him second guess his decision. He wanted to change his mind, but he couldn't now.

No, he was in to deep to change his mind now. He had Mai to care for and Azula to worry about. She knew by now that the Avatar had lived. She was smart enough to back him into a corner. She was smart enough to instill fear of her in him. He couldn't leave, so he dreamt.

Her face was so beautiful. He longed for her touch. The dreams always ended with those words that were sure to haunt him for the rest of his life. 'I thought you had changed' He wished he could have changed mind about sides when she said those words, but he couldn't have changed his mind in the middle of a fight any more than he could change his mind now. He was stuck.

Stuck with dreaming. He was tired of wanting her. Tired of dreaming about her. He wanted to be with her or at least beat the memory of her out of his memory. Her dark skin and her kind words. They comforted him while he slept. He lived to hear her whisper his name with no malice.

'Zuko' it was almost better than reality to hear her whisper it. She said it so different than anyone else. She said it better than even Mai. Much better than Mai whispering his name. He longed to go back to that night.

He wondered if she dreamt of him. Maybe she wanted to go back to that night as much as he did. Maybe she dreamt of what his lips would taste like too. Maybe she would forgive him if he came to her. He would never know, but always wonder. Dreams of her were better, much better, than reality. Every night he whispered her name just as she did his. 'Katara'
