A moment, frozen in time.
Two figures face off in the darkened space. Once lovers, their relationship has finally reached the conclusion that seemed inevitable, as though destiny had been moving them towards this moment.
And once achieved, time seemed to stand still.
She is standing tall, the shock evident on her face. Her long white gown is dirtied from when she fell a few moments ago, and a strand of hair has fallen loose from it's elaborate bindings, it's dark colour a strange contrase to her pale face.
A tear is making its way down her cheek, tracing a silver path along her white make-up. It has smeered one of the red beauty marks on her cheek, causing it to seem as though she is bleeding.
Her distress is evident, and she does not want to believe what has been asked of her. Her responsibility is clear to her, as is her own heart, but she still refuses to accept the change in him.
He, on the other hand, is almost enjoying her distress. Whilst a small part of him longs to comfort her, to hold her and tell her that everything is alright, that he did not mean what he said, his darker side represses those feelings.
His hand is held out to her, his black cloak covering it up to the palm. The whiteness of his skin is a pale contrast to the darkness of his clothing. His blue eyes are piercing, taking in every detail of her, as if he knows that he will never see her again.
The lightsaber at his side swings unused from his belt.
Then she shakes her heads, and time seems to speed up.
He grows angry, having offered her the universe, only to have it refused. He remembers his orders to make her join them, and tries to persuade her.
She thinks of her children, safely hidden away, far from where he would ever think to look, though he knows not of their existance. She knows she must be strong, for them, for the future, and so she looks him in the eye, fingering in her sleave for the detonator concealed within.
"I am sorry Anakin", she says, and the room explodes in a white light.
And, far away from it all, watching through eyes of the Force, the dark one sees what has transpired, and smiles.
