Sakura did not believe in fairytales, a lot of people probably thought she did, they probably thought that she was still waiting for her perfect prince, maybe even for her knight.

But no, she didn't believe in princes who came to the rescue, or of knights that slay the dragon. No, she believed in war, and blood, and death. Because Sakura was not blind to the truth, she was not blind to the world. Because her prince had left her, and her knight had followed soon after. It wasn't so much that they didn't care; it just wasn't their way, it was because they had broken away from their parts. So she was left to fend for herself, a princess who would never be rescued.

But she didn't want them to leave, so she broke from her role, she escaped from her tower by herself. And she fought, with tooth and nail, with shuriken and kunai, because there was no one left to help her, there was no one left to save her.

And she forgot. She forgot that she was supposed to be protected; she forgot that she was supposed to be shielded, so she continued to fight, punching, kicking, biting, because she was strong, because she was better.

But then they came back, and they tried to protect her, because it wasn't right that she should have to fight. But it was too late, so she escaped from them; she ran away from a past that wasn't hers anymore. And she tried not to think, because if she did she would remember what it was like to be protected, what it was like to know that she was safe, and she would want it back, but she knew she couldn't do that, because she had worked so hard to be strong, she had trained and trained until she had passed the limit, pushing herself beyond that point until the line was blurred enough for her to cross over it.

Because she was stronger, because she was better, because she had learned to fight and she had learned how to bleed.

Sakura did not believe in fairytales, because Sasuke and Naruto were no longer hers, because they were just memories, because she did not to be saved anymore, because she had rescued herself.
