I stood waiting on La Push Beach. It was a cold September day I didn't mind though it was one of the benefits of being half vampire was the weather didn't really affect me. That and what I had learned today stung me more than anything the weather could ever do.
I saw Jacob walking over. Lately when I saw him sent a nervous chill down my spine. I don't know the exact day I started seeing him as more than an older brother/ best friend but that day had come. I was in love with him.
The first thing he said to me was "Why aren't you wearing your bracelet?"
"Didn't feel like it." I said looking down at my wrist that I had always worn my bracelet from Jacob on.
Jake looked hurt by this. "But I don't think I have seen you not wearing that bracelet since your first Christmas."
"So does that mean I have to wear it every day?"
I guess Jacob noticed something was off about my behavior. "You are definitely keeping something from me."
"Well you keep things from me."
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
I held out my hand. He knew what I was telling him, that I wanted to show him something.
We were sitting in Emily and Sam's house. What seemed randomly the subject of imprinting came up.
"What's that?" I said bouncing little Levi Uley on my lap. Emily and Sam's son was looking up at me with what seemed like confusion. I would have guessed that he was confused about imprinting also except for the fact that he was only seven months old.
"You hang out with Jacob everyday and you don't know this?" Kim asked rubbing her hand over her slightly expanding belly. It seemed like all the pack members were having children. I thought of Jake holding a little baby boy in his arms, our little baby boy.
I shook my head "No."
"When the wolves find they're soul mate they know right away it's like love at first sight."
"So instant love at first sight?"
"No not if the imprint is too young for it to be a romantic relationship. I mean look at Quil and Claire, he imprinted on her when she was two. He's just waiting for her to grow up. I mean he was her protector and then her friend."
"Jeez I wonder when Jake is going to imprint on someone." It took everything I had to hide the jealously in my body. Jacob was mine at least in my head. No girl was going to be good enough for him.
"Nessie, Jake imprinted years ago." Leah said.
I pulled my hand away before Jacob could see the part where I had excused myself to the bathroom to start crying. He said he was always going to be there for me. How could he do that if someone else was his soul mate?
"I'm going to kill Leah." Jake said.
"Don't blame her you're the one who choose to not tell me." I said and started to walk away.
"Nessie."
"Leave me alone Jacob."
"Ness, listen to me."
"No!" Then I started running back towards the cottage.
Once I was back I locked myself in my room and cried into my pillow. I went to hug, Paws, my stuff animal that always made me feel better but then I realized it was a wolf that Jacob had given me.
"Stupid Jacob invading every aspect of my life." I then heard the door opening.
"Nessie."
"Go Away Jacob."
"No we need to talk."
"I'm not speaking to you."
"Come on! What do I have to do?"
"Just answer my question."
"Ok."
"Were you hanging out with me because you were waiting for your imprint to grow up?"
"Yes I was waiting for you to grow up."
"What?"
"Nessie you're my imprint."
I couldn't believe it. "What?"
"I imprinted on you the first time I saw you."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Mine." I said as I pulled him into a hug. Jacob was mine and I couldn't be more happy. I heard Jacob chuckle.
"Exactly."
