For laurahonest since you kinda pushed me to write a real short fic to go with this crazy idea off AIM and for giving the story it's title.
It was a peaceful day in Resembool. The birds were chirping their songs as Trisha Elric worked in the kitchen. Humming a tune to herself, she pulled out a tray of freshly baked cookies. The sweet smell filled the house.
Thump Thump Thump
She could hear the sound of little legs running at full speed. Out of the doorway came two overexcited little boys. Both had hair of bright sunshine gold.
"We smell cookies!" both cried at the same time while trying to push the other over.
"I smelled them first!" Ed said with a grin pushing Al out of the way.
"That's a lie! I smelled them first, brother!" Al pouted. Trisha couldn't help but giggle softly at her boys so full of life.
"I did just fix some cookies but they are for after supper." she told them with a mother's warmth and firmness to her voice. "Why don't you two go outside and play for now." she suggested.
"Okay" Ed said while Al nodded in agreement. Then both of them hurried out the door as fast as their legs could take them.
Outside Ed paced back and forth in front of Al who was sitting on the swing. His face with deep in thought.
"Brother, why are you worried about cookies so badly? You know mom won't let us have any till after supper. It's not that far off." Al said.
"Because, I have a sweet tooth I just need to fill. Besides, cookies taste better when they are fresh." Ed explained with a hint of evil on his face. "Come on, Al! I've got the perfect plan!" Ed stomped back up to the house.
"I have a bad feeling about this." Al sighed and reluctantly followed his brother.
Ed poked his head around the corner of the house. Good, mom's nowhere in sight. He turned to look over at Al and waved for him to come. Slowly they made their way to the open kitchen window.
"Mom, put the cookies right there in the window. I'm going to use alchemy and tip the cookie jar over. You need to be ready to catch it. Got it?" Ed whispered.
"But brother, what if mom catches us?" Al asked worry in his face.
"Meh, mom will never know." he waved off. Taking a piece of chalk of his pocket he drew a perfect circle on the side of the house. "You ready Al?" Al nodded as his brother put his hands to the circle and light filled up his sight.
"BOYS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Al jumped and ran behind the house. Ed pulled back before finishing the transmutation as the jar of cookies flew though the air. SMACK! The jar of cookies crashed on top of Ed's soft head knocking him out.
"It's only a slight concussion. Nothing to worry about. He'll have a slight headache for awhile but other than that he'll be fine."
"Thank you doctor." Trisha said as she led the doctor out.
Back in the bedroom Ed was sporting a bandage around his head, pouting. Al walked over to his brother's bedside. "I thought you said mom wouldn't know about this." Al said teasingly. Ed just turned over in the bed.
"Oh, shut up."
