Written For the Drabble Game Challenge, DeanLuna, coffee, for Dra. And the Pairing the Character Competition (Luna)
Anyone else would tell her that she ought to be in bed. Four in the morning, replacing sleep with coffee, is no way to live.
But Dean leans against the doorframe, watching the determination in Luna's eyes as she patiently mixes paint together until she gets just the right shade of purple. Seeing her like this, covered in splashes of color without a care in the world inspires his artist heart.
"What are you painting tonight?" he asks, sitting across from her, his sketchbook in hand, ready to join her in her late night artistic exploration.
Luna holds up the canvas, revealing a rendering of some strange creature her father has told her about. "They're only found in Belgium," she says. "I would like to see one someday."
Dean smiles. Once, he would have told her that they didn't exist, that no amount of travel would bring her to her goal. Now, however, he opens his sketchbook, pulling his pencil from behind his ear, and he sketches what she has painted. "I've got a vacation coming up," he tells her. "Belgium is beautiful this time of year."
Luna pours herself another cup of coffee before returning to her painting. "I think I would like that very much."
