Title: The Great Indoors
Author: Bonnie .L.
Disclaimer: Don't own. Don't sue.
A/N: Just a short experimental piece to help me get a feel for CSI fics. So.... here it is... my first ever fic. Btw, I haven't written any fiction at all for a few years, so don't be surprised if I'm a little.. err.. rusty. The lyrics used, and the title come from 'The Great Indoors' by John Mayer. I originally started writing this as the beginning of a longer story, but near the middle I decided to go with a short one-shot for my first try. Please R&R :) Oh, and just a warning, this hasn't been beta- read. Ok I should stop rambling now.

Sara sat on her couch flipping through one of her countless forensic journals. It was still another three hours before she had to be at work, but as was becoming the norm lately she couldn't sleep. There was always something else to worry about, another thing that she needed to think over before her mind would let her wind down. She guessed the ridiculous amounts of coffee she was consuming could also have something to do with that. Her colleagues were becoming concerned with her lack of sleep, and even more so the emotional walls around her, which were becoming more and more apparent. Sighing, she put down her book and made her way over to the fridge to retrieve what was left of yesterday's take out.
Check your pulse it's proof
That you're not listening to
The call you're life's been
Issuing you
The rhythm of a line of idle days
Not too long ago, Sara had tried to break out of her isolation by going out with Hank, the EMT. That was, of course, until she found out that he had used her to cheat on his girlfriend. Then, when she had worked up the courage to finally ask Grissom out to dinner, he had had no hesitation in rejecting her, acting as if the idea was completely implausible. Now, Sara was a scientist; she followed the evidence until she came to a conclusion. Hank, and now Grissom, was more than enough evidence to lead her to one inevitable conclusion; people – and relationships- only severed to come back and bite you in the ass. As far as Sara was concerned, she was better off inside her own protective shell, and letting anyone past that was just plain stupid. Still, as she looked around her vacant apartment, she couldn't help but feel a little empty.
Scared of a world outside
You should go explore
Pull all the shades
And wander the great indoors
After finding there was nothing tolerable on TV, Sara put the now empty take out container in the bin and decided that a shower was in order. Standing in front of the mirror, she twirled her hair into ponytail and pinned it up, out of the way. She then proceeded to undress, and deposit her clothes in the laundry basket before stepping into the shower. Sara turned on the taps and let the water beat down onto her back.
Go unlock the door
And find out what you're here for
Leave the great indoors
Please leave the great indoors

A/N: So there you have it. Hope you managed to get through that without feeling like hitting yourself over the head with a blunt object :P .Anyway, please review and tell me what you think... as I said I'm a newbie, so any constructive criticism is welcome (just don't flame me to death or anything :P)
Hmm... I just read that over, and I'm not that happy with it.... but I'm too tired right now to correct it (plus, it's about time I posted a story on here) so I'm just going to post it in all of its crappy glory. hehe
