Disclaimer: Harry Potter is not mine. He belongs to J.K. Rowling. Only the poem is mine.
Author's Note: Hmm, haven't written poems in a long while. Let's see how this goes . . this was written in Hermione's POV, about Harry.
This is dedicated to Freya Racinna, for always encouraging me in her reviews (hugs) Thank you so much!
Hurdles
sudden changes
rocks on the road –
we've gone over all of them
some of them invisible
some not
few that are easily seen –
too many hearts broken
too many tears shed
niggling doubts
fear, insecurity
a natural protectiveness
played a part
to get us to where we are now
You wanted to keep me
from being harmed
and I wanted to do the same
to you –
we were each other's protectors
a team working and fighting
together
we had to reject those who
thought they liked us –
and also find out the meaning of
true love
alone
We were with the wrong people –
Me with Viktor
you with Cho
and luckily enough
we realized it
before it was too late
and
we wouldn't be standing here
together now
finally
Others wanted to destroy us
Most of all you
We were both damn sure
not only would you survive
I would, too
We trained
worked
fought hard to be
where we are now
and wouldn't let the other go –
If you left, I went with you
We're two halves of one person
without one half, the other
would not exist
we would be
feeling a gaping hole
in our hearts, incomplete
missing a part of ourselves
that fit only
with us
like I belonged
by your side
We were also scared shitless –
that we would lose each other
that together
we couldn't fight
in the eternal battle against evil –
that two people weren't enough
You worried if you were enough
to even
in the end
battle with Voldemort
and accepted –
that out of the two of you
one would die
and either Voldemort would be the killer
or you would be.
You could only hope
that one day
good would
triumph over evil
and that your battle
with Voldemort –
truth and justice
against
malice and greed
would help accomplish that
During everything
I was your confidante
and you were mine
trusting, supporting each other
as best as we could
we were there
always
for one another
– you needed me
and I needed you
You were constantly plagued
by doubt –
– whether you could
do this or not
You wondered
who you really were
searching for what was
beyond your name
for there was more to you
than the label of a hero
You wondered
if everything you felt
was truly right
and if you had been
a mistake, an accident
or the cause of your parents' deaths –
– which you weren't.
You found out
how harsh life was
and how strong
you could be
in the face of it
I wondered
the same things
as you –
trying to find a place
of my own
where I truly belonged.
and if
anything I felt
was truly right
Then we had to face society –
what would it think
of us,
who were "unlikely"
– and belonged together?
Me, the bushy-haired best friend
a – gasp! – bookworm
with you,
a true hero?
– but we didn't care
what it thought
as long as we were happy
– that was all that mattered.
Even if we weren't together
you and I
wanted the other
to be content
and living a good life
We weathered through
too much
pain and sacrifice
to be together
I know you'll agree
We've come a long way
and I'm grateful that
here, now
I'm with you
where I've always been –
– by your side.
