In Plain Sight

February, 1901

A dark haired woman approaches a farm house in Biloxi, Mississippi carrying a small newborn baby girl. The woman mourns for her child, knowing this is the only way to protect her from the avarice and greed of the girls uncle. This is the only way to protect her daughter from her brainwashed father and his war hungry accomplice. This would be her daughters only chance for a life of normality, a chance to live and a chance to die a normal person, never knowing the fear and carnage that her family had wrought in the world.

The mother layed her daughter on the stone steps of the house and whispered to her in an unfamiliar language, a language long dead to the humanity, remembered only in minds of those who had lived in days before recorded history. There were very few of them left, but this was the heritage of the girl left an orphan. A girl born to parents who would never die. A girl born to a mother who must abandon her to give her life...

She could hear the footsteps just beyond the stones of the alleyway. She could hear him smell the air and see him come closer. Closer to her and the small boy in her arms. The son of a man who would stop at nothing to find and bring his wife back. A man who would manipulate his son into being a monster he was never meant to be. This baby would be talented. How so the mother was not sure, but he would be talented, just like his father. Just like the man who would end his life before it began.

The woman had long flowing blonde hair that whipped around her face and distorted her vision. She did not need to see clearly though to know that she and her son were in grave danger. Dmitri stood very close now, and the mother decided there would be no better chance of escape. She jumped out of the shadows and dashed with inhuman speed down the long street. She veered left and then right to n avail, she was unable to outrun her assailant. She grasped her son and layed him in the window of a modiste's shop. There were no love words spoken or good bye's exchanged. Only a mothers last efforts to hide and protect her son. The child was left with a note bearing only one word...Edward.

I really hope you all like this story. It will be very AU, but in a way that correlates to the story. In case you can't figure it out, the girl in the first paragraph was Alice. Please rate and review! I want to hear what everyone has to say and what I could do to make this better. This is a prologue.
