Shall I Compare You?

disclaimer: these characters are NOT mine. The phrase "for you a thousand times over" is NOT mine either. it's from the kite runner.

On a bridge in a memory of so long ago, we became friends. I called your name, and you called mine. We promised to meet again, as friends. As allies.

Shall I compare you to the wind? The ever elusive wind whose path crosses with mine an almost infinite amount of times, and then suddenly disappears. But at that moment, I had caught you and guaranteed that we would meet again. You would cross my path again.

We were brought together again due to the Book of Darkness incident and later on the formation of Riot Section Six. Though the problems we faced were dangerous, you stayed by my side, and your smile comforted me every step of the way.

Shall I compare you to the wind? At those times, you danced around me, and I relished the moments we spent together, so much in fact, that I thought they would last an eternity.

In the blood soaked snow, I screamed your name. I knelt down next to your reclined figure in a throne of cold blood. My tears cascaded down my face onto yours. My voice a hoarse whisper. "Why?" I asked. "Why did you step in front of me?!" I cried as loudly as I could. I wanted my voice to reach yours, to pull you out your silence. And it did. Your eyes opened ever so slowly, and seeing me, you tried to smile the smile I loved. The one that told me everything would be okay. Except this time, you did not say everything would be okay. Your hand reached up and placed itself on my cheek, wiping away as much of my tears as you could. "For you. For you I'd do it a thousand times over." I placed my hand over yours and smiled. The smile that you loved.

Shall I compare you to the wind? The caressing touch of the wind, coming suddenly to comfort and leaving just as quickly.

You died, and left me behind.

Author's note: Hope you enjoyed my first fanfic. I've been stalking this place for quite a while and finally decided to contribute. This was inspired by The Kite Runner, and I made up one scene. hope it's not too horrid to read. -rv
