When You Look Out Your Window
When you look out your window,
What do you see?
Do you see the stars,
Or do you see the emptiness of space?
Do you look in wonderment,
Or in humility?
Do you feel alone and unwanted,
Or does the beauty take your breath away?
I see the stars.
I see the emptiness of space.
I look at them as a blank page.
There is no wonder.
There is no awe.
I have seen them before,
As I will see them forever.
I fear the dark.
I fear the stars to wink out.
When you look out your window,
Do you feel the pain of searing loss?
Does your heart cry for one you cannot hold?
Are you alone?
Is your heart in mourning?
Or are you crying tears of joy?
I feel the pain.
I know the hurt. The loss.
I look out my window,
And I wonder what could have been.
I could know peace.
I could know rest.
But I would be sacrificing that which I have,
My love.
When you look out your window,
Do you look past your reflection?
Do you see it at first, then pass it by?
Do you stare into your eyes,
And ask yourself a question?
Or do you glance away,
Afraid of your answer?
Do you see your reflection,
Or do you see your fear?
Are you afraid of what is not known?
When you look out your window,
Do you see what I fear?
I fear the darkness of forever night.
I fear the shadow,
The evil that lurks there.
I fear what you can be.
I fear what I can lose.
When you look out your window,
Do the bars blind your view?
Are you trapped in a life that isn't yours?
Do you live in a dark cell,
accompanied by the silence of thought?
Are you frightened of the dark?
All fear will fade.
How far you have traveled.
How much you have seen.
When you look out your window,
Do you see what you've seen?
Or do you see what could be seen?
So much I have longed for,
But nothing compared to you.
What I see out my window,
Is what I see when I dream.
When I look out my window,
I see what lies beyond my grasp.
I see the scars that trap my love.
I see the wisdom of thousands,
Pass as a scattered flock.
I see the love I never owned,
Alone in desperate patience clinging,
To what hope still remains.
The hope that I have in you.
The hope that keeps me here.
You watch for me,
When I am blinded with tears.
You stand for me,
When I am crippled with fear.
You breathe for me,
When I am drowning.
You cry for me,
When pain seeks my soul.
You sing for me,
When I am low with shame.
You hear for me,
When my cries deafen me.
You feel for me,
Like I, for you.
At least, that is what I hope,
When I see you in my dreams.
When I look out my window,
I see what I have lost.
I see what I could have been.
I see what is now.
I see the pain of reality.
I feel it in your eyes.
I taste it in your breath.
I look out my window,
At my hope that is dying.
I stand strong for you,
For without you I am weak.
When I look out my window,
I see you, my love.
I see you.
