A/N: Hey again! This time it's a D.N.Angel fic! I'm...not really sure what to say about this one...it's really sad and I'm not sure if it's any good or not so...yeah. I just got a weird urge to write it. Well, hope you like it!

Pretend
There were three things that had always been true in Satoshi Hiwatari's life. One, Krad was an evil, conniving bastard. Two, Daisuke will always act adorable no matter how serious he is attempting to be at the time. And three, sometimes it's better to remain in the shadows than to lose your only light forever...
"Daisuke...I...I love you.", the young detective's husky voice was softer than usual as he stared intently at the small redhead with darkened eyes, arms and legs firmly pinning the younger boy to the floor of the museum where Dark's latest heist should have taken place. Daisuke frowned slightly, surprise briefly robbing him ofhis voice. Yeah, he had guessed from Dark's comments that Satoshi had liked him that way but he had assumed that that was Dark being, well, Dark... "I'm sorry." the bluenette above him whispered, uncertainty making the usually confident voice crack slightly. Daisuke's ruby eyes widened as he felt the faint tremor ripple through his best friends' body and the realization of how hard saying those few words was for his introverted classmate hit him. Mistaking the redhead's stunned silence for rejection, Satoshi looked away, hoping Daisuke wouldn't see the vulnerability in his usually guarded cerulean eyes. When he spoke his voice was even, though deep within it a faint hint of sorrow could be detected, "It's okay that you don't like me back. I shouldn't have even brought this up--", Satoshi's sentence was cut off as Daisuke pressed his lips firmly against the detective's, delighted to see the surprise written on the commander's face. Tenderness soon rushed into the bluenette's eyes as he began to kiss his redhead back passionately...
Beep! Beep! Beep! Satoshi let out a low, disappointed moan as he turned off his alarm clock, still attempting to cling to the dream. 3 am already... he thought dully, unconciously wrapping his arms tightly about himself in an useless attempt to keep the dream Daisuke's heat close to him. Satoshi knew it was only a matter of time before conciousness robbed him of even this small illusion. Soon even the phantom heat would disappear and he would get up, using the early hours to compose himself before his inner demon woke up and he walked to school, where he would watch the real Daisuke and fondly remember the invisible embraces that haunted his restless sleep. Satoshi knew all too well that it wasn't real, that the Daisuke in his dreams was a lie.
But that didn't mean he couldn't pretend.
