Hello, English is not my first language but I have been studying here in the States for 4 years now. So I thought it was time to venture and start writing in English. Please let me know how can I improve my writing.
This is the English version of my fic 'Como Educar a un Hyuuga', enjoy!
Hanabi is 15 years younger than Neji in this fic.
Raising Hyuugas
Prologue
His smartphone vibrated for the third time, the noise of the device hitting the glass surface of his nightstand could be heard in the entire the room. Neji couldn't ignore it any longer.
He gently pushed away the naked girl laying on his chest, what was her name again? It didn't matter, the blonde sure was a heavy sleeper since she didn't seem disturbed by the noise or the movement. He grabbed the phone and in all his glorious nakedness stood and took the call outside the room.
The person on the other side of the line yelped but Neji couldn't understand what he said after, his speech too fast making his words blend together. At the end, the man sobbed. Who dare call him so early in morning and then don't make any sense? He was about to scold him when the other man took a deep breath.
"I am very sorry, Neji-sama…" What he was sorry about? Wasting his time? He recognized the voice as one that belong to his uncle's assistant "Hiashi-sama and Hinata-sama will be greatly missed"
"Toru, calm down and tell me what happened" he demanded firmly, his tone void from the worry settling in his chest. Neji Hyuuga had never been religious, but he found himself praying to Kami that everything was alright.
"There was an….an..accid-aacident in the early morning, sir" more sobbing "There were no survivors"
He dropped the phone; the touch screen broke into thousand of pieces. His uncle and cousin were dead. No, his father and sister. Gone. The only family he had left in the world existed no more.
It hurt so much inside, so why couldn't he cry?
.
The funeral had been a solemn ceremony. Pretty much everyone who belonged to Konoha's elite class had been there. The Hyuuga family was one of the oldest and most respected families in the country. They owned many business and private companies, and –as many people use to whisper – they controlled a big part of the city politics and economics. However, neither power nor money could shield them from such a devastating tragedy.
Today, a week from the day he said goodbye to them for the last time, Neji had a meeting with his uncle's attorney. With Hinata dead, Neji was now the heir to half of Hiashi's assets. The other half belonged to his only living cousin. Hanabi. Suddenly Neji felt like the worst scum on the earth. He had been so focused on his pain that he had forgotten about his little sister. He couldn't remember seeing her at the funeral.
"My other cousin, Hanabi, how is she?" He asked abruptly, cutting off the lawyer mid sentence as he listed all the properties Hiashi had left to his name. The older man gave him a confused look.
"Didn't your uncle share his plan with you?" Neji shook his head and the man took a paper out from his briefcase. "Here Mr. Hiashi Hyuuga states that in case of his premature death, his eldest daughter Hinata will become the legal guardian of hid youngest daughter and will administrate her trust fund until she becomes of age. However if Miss Hinata is unable to perform this task, the responsibility will be passed to his nephew, Neji Hyuuga."
Oh shit.
Well, thank you very much for making it this far! This chapter was kind of sad but things will get better, I promise! No NejiIno for a couple of chapters.
