Blue Fish
Blue Fish-one shot.
I loved this part, and I had to write something right away.
After work was over for the week, Brennan found herself driving past her apartment and driving toward D.C.'s aquarium. 'We're not blue fish' kept running through her mind. What did that even mean? She'd been shocked when April had shown up at her office. Yeah, she'd been a little…what had Cam said? 'Kooky'? Okay, yeah, but she had meant it when she'd told Booth that she liked April. She had been passionate at least about what she liked, and Brennan could always respect that. And April had really been interested in trying to give her relationship with Dr. Sweets a try.
'Ha…I can't believe she came to me for advice on relationships! As if Booth and I are…well, the whole reason we were there in the first place was because we're in therapy, couples therapy…so yeah, not a good idea.'
If she were honest, though, she'd admit that at least at the ceramics class, she and Booth had been able to have a good time, so it wasn't totally out of the question that April would have thought that…
'No, wait…we're not' Brennan repeated to herself… 'we're not blue fish'
She pulled into the parking lot, and paid the entrance fee making her way straight toward the tropical fish.
"Hey Bones! What a coincidence!"
"Booth! And Parker. What? What are you doing here?"
"Well, all that talk of fish made me want to come here. I haven't been here in years, and I'm hanging with my main man this weekend, so I thought, 'Why not?' This is great. Isn't this great, Parker?"
"Yeah, Dad. Hey, Bones. What fish is your favorite?"
"Hmmm? Oh, I don't know, Parker. Let's look and see.
She turned and pressed her hand against the glass. Immediately her eyes were drawn to a vibrant blue fish.
"Gorgeous"
"Yeah, Bones, I mean, I wouldn't say they have souls, but they are really pretty aren't they?"
"So, which one is your favorite?"
"Parker, this one, that blue one…it's my favorite."
"Kind of reminds me of you, Bones."
'What?"
"You know, just…really…can you see it swimming in that straight line? It has a purpose and it looks like it's going for it."
Just then another blue fish swam up against her favorite.
"Hey, look Dad, it's your favorite. The one with the brown stripe?"
"Oh, well that one reminds me of you then."
"How's that?"
"You know, you're always right beside me, probably looking for some food or something."
"Haha, very funny Bones."
"Bones, you and Daddy are like blue fish!"
"Oooh Bones, how do you like that?" Booth grinned
Brennan smiled too.
"Yeah, I guess we are."
