A/N: I wrote a story last night, but we do not have internet so I tried to bring it to work to upload it and it was GONE!! (cries) So I have to re-write it.
She lay on the bed next to the man she loves more than life itself watching the minutes click by on the clock. She is just waiting for the phone call that she prays won't come, but at 11:50 his cell rings.
"Hey baby"
"Yeah, I had to work a little late again tonight"
"No, I'll be home in about thirty minutes"
"Okay, I'll pick up some milk"
"Love you too. Bye"
Once he hangs up he walks around the room picking up his clothes and putting them on.
"I'll see you tomorrow at work"
She lifts her head off her pillow "Stay"
He gives a deep sigh "You know I can't do that"
"Why not? You keep telling me you're going to leave her, but I don't think that is the truth."
He just looks at her.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow" she says as she lays her head back on the pillow
With that he walks out of her room then out of her apartment. Once she hears the click of her apartment door closing is when the thoughts and tears start.
She knows she shouldn't be doing this. She has realized that how much it hurts to love a man she has to share with someone else, and that she doesn't get the best of him. This is the same scene that plays out maybe twice a week.
The next day at work they walk around and talk like nothing is going on. They do what they have to do to make it through the day.
But sometimes she can't help but think back to his skin on hers, the way he looks at her while he is on top of her. Of the love she wants to believe is in his eyes.
This will play out for another couple months and every time at 11:50 the phone will ring and he will leave to go back to her. She knows that his girlfriend knows what is going on, but can't understand why. Then she thinks about the man himself and realizes she would do the same thing.
What is killing her is that she puts everything she has into, and she know what she needs to do, but doesn't know if she can do it.
Finally the time comes where her will is just too strong. He shows up at her door step like he has many times before, but when he goes in to kiss her. She steps back.
"Stop"
He looks at her like he knew this would come, but was praying it wouldn't.
"I'm sorry I can't do this anymore. I'm tired of being lonely; you can't give me what I need. I can't waste another minute. I'm sorry. Next time you want to leave her bed from mine. Stay"
He looks up at her. He turns and starts to walk back down the hall. She watches from the door step.
"Mac?"
"Yeah Stella?"
"Go home to Payton and make it up to her"
Mac just nods then presses the button for the elevator. Once inside he realizes he may have just screwed up the best thing, but still leaves and goes home to Payton.
The next couple of days Stella feel like a burden has been lifted from her shoulders.
Danny walks up to Lindsay.
"Think she finally had enough?"
Lindsay stands there watching Stella laugh at something Flack said like she didn't have a care in the world.
"Yeah, I think she did"
A/N: Okay I did a lot by memory. I didn't want to put too much at the beginning I didn't want to give it away. I don't' know CSI: NY or "Stay" If you know the song you will see that I put some of the lyrics into my story. See if you can tell. I figured I would do something different and did this as a Mac/Stella story. Let me know what ya think!! Please review!!
