Jesus sucked air into his lungs as he was finally able to breathe normally, the sharp pain from the snake bite and the feeling of his throat closing up were gone. Sweat rolled down the side of his face and a tear slid from the corner of his eye, "Where'd they go?" He hoarsely whispered to Lafayette.
Lafayette pointed towards the closed door behind Jesus.
He nodded and scanned the room around them, "We need to go." Jesus managed to stumble to his feet, grab Lafayette's hand and drag them both to the door.
"Will you drive?" He dangled the keys in front of his partner's face.
Lafayette gave a relieved smile. "Baby, I will do whatever it takes to get the hell out of here." He grabbed the keys, helped Jesus get into the car and turned around to see the old man peering out the window in the house.
The curtain fell closed and a shudder ran through him. He moved around to the driver's side door and climbed in, he spared one glance back towards the house before placing the vehicle in drive and hitting the gas.
The sweat was pouring off of Jesus as his partner drove down the dirt roads of Mexico, racing away from the scenes they had just witnessed. He could feel his whole body shaking uncontrollably regardless of how warm it was outside, he was sure it was just a side effect of the snake bite, he wasn't completely healed, but he'd live.
He glanced over at Lafayette and winced as they hit a particularly nasty hole in the road. "You need to slow down."
"Are you freakin kidding me?" Lafayette turned angry eyes towards his boyfriend, but when he noticed the condition the other man was in he immediately calmed down.
"It's 90 fucking degrees out here and you're shivering." He pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and placed a hand first on Jesus' shoulder and then his forehead. He slid over and wrapped an arm around the shivering man, and gently ran his hand up and down his lover's arm.
Jesus closed his eyes and hissed in a breath as a particularly sharp pain jabbed its way through his skull, the hand on his arm immediately stilled. He felt the warm breath from Lafayette as his partner leaned down towards his ear, "You alright?"
Jesus nodded as he managed to open his eyes. "Just a headache." He gently pushed himself out of Lafayette's grasp, trying to put on a brave face. "We need to go."
Lafayette shook his head, "Not until you tell me what's going on, and who the hell is Tio Luca?"
"Someone from my past." He reached out and took Lafayette's hand in his. "We need to get back to Louisiana."
"Get back?" Lafayette gave his boyfriend an incredulous look. "We don't have any answers yet, no way of protecting ourselves."
The events of the night flashed through Jesus' mind. "Trust me; we've got everything we need."
"Trust you?" Lafayette's eyes got big, "That's what you said on the way down here, and now I've had to eat a freakin goats tongue, get possessed by some long lost friend of yours." He stopped ranting when Jesus once again grabbed his hand.
"Baby, please?" Jesus rubbed his forehead again, the headache starting to get worse.
Lafayette sighed, "Fine, we'll go back to Louisiana." He leaned over and kissed his partner on the head. "Try to get some sleep."
"Yeah." Jesus gave him a lazy smile as they pulled back on to the road and he closed his eyes.
"I hope you know what you're doing." Lafayette whispered.
"Me too."
