May watched hopelessly as her boyfriend Drew crawled under the white Toyota to remove the oil filter from the undercarriage.
For the umpteenth time.
She heard a few moans and groans under the hood. Things must not be going well. It wasn't long before she heard him mumble a few words, cursing the truck and going on about how Toyota sucks and people need to learn how to make a good car.
She shook her head asking, "Why don't you just slow down and concentrate?"
"Because this car is a piece of-"
"Fine," she spoke, cutting off his sentence, "Don't listen to me." May's gaze hardened, and even though she couldn't see him, her tone definitely got the point across.
Drew soon crawled out from under the vehicle, wiping his forehead of sweat and continuing to mumble some obscenities that May preferred he keep to himself.
"Why don't you let me try? My hands are tinier and might be better to get that ratchet thing around the filter."
He stared at her incredulously, then at the truck in annoyance. "Go ahead, but you probably won't get it. That thing is not budging."
With a roll of her eyes, May grabbed the ratchet from him and slid under the truck, rolling her sleeves up(that was the blue-collar thing to do right?). Once the filter was located, she attempted to get the attached device around it. A few tries proved fruitless, but after toying with it, May got device around the filter and began loosening it.
"I got it!" She chimed as she continued to loosen the oil filter.
"You really got it?"
"Sure did! Eeep!" What she had forgotten was that oil continued to drip after the filter was removed, and her coat was soon splattered with oil. She quickly threw the filter in the tub used for catching the old oil and squirmed out from under the car.
"Hey Dad, we got the filter off!" Drew called to his father.
Drew's dad came over and gave a chuckle. "It's no easy task, son."
May gave a light giggle. She was easily amused by her boyfriend's interactions with his dad. It was even funnier that she was the one who actually got the filter off because of course-men should never be outdone by women.
When his dad had asked who got the filter off, Drew pointed the girl's way.
"May did."
A surprised look made its way onto the older man's face as he turned towards the girl, who had an incredulous smirk plastered on her's.
Never leave a man to do a woman's job.
This actually happened to me and my ex. He couldn't get the filter off the car and I did. It floored both him and his dad. I was so proud of myself lol
