White as Snow
Snow. It fell softly to the ground, covering the hard forest ground like blanket. It was as cold as ice but as light as a feather. She always felt content in the snow. Like it was her guardian. After all, it was her namesake. She twirled around with her arms spread wide, letting the snow fall freely around her. She giggled like a child and for the first time since her wedding, let herself relax.
"Isn't it beautiful, James?" she said gleefully. She smiled as she felt his strong arms wrap around her and pick her off the ground. She squealed in delight as he spun her around.
"Yes," he said, "it is pretty. But to be honest, it's not the most beautiful snow I've ever seen."
She giggled again and turned around in his arm, kissing him on his nose.
"Oh, aren't you charming," she teased him. He smiled.
"Only for the fairest of them all," he said with a proud smile. She bit her lip and buried her face in the crook of his neck.
"I told you not to call me that," she mumbled. James tightened grip around her and whispered in her ear,
"Well, it's true. You most certainly are the fairest of them all."
She couldn't help but blush. She just felt so vulnerable around him. She let her walls break down and she opened herself up. Something she hadn't really done since the death of her mother. Especially since the Evil Queen came into her life. She hated thinking about that, more than she would like to admit actually. But it was just so hard not to.
"James?" she said softly, lifting her face up to look him in the eye.
"Hmm?"
"Do you think that the Queen was being serious when she threatened us at the wedding? I mean, I know she'll try to do something, but do you think it will work?"
James sighed, pulling away from her so he could look her in the eye. Snow knew that he hated talking about the Queen's threat, but they needed to discuss it at some point.
"Look at me Snow," he said, tilting her chin up, "No matter what, whether the threat is real or not, I won't let her hurt you. I promise."
"I don't need you to protect me, Charming. I can do that by myself, you know that as well as anyone."
James rolled his eyes at his wife's independence and pulled her close to him again.
"Yes, but it's kind of part of the job description as husband to protect his wife. Do you have a problem with that?"
Snow laughed again, the thoughts of the curse and the Queen leaving her mind in an instant.
"No, as long as you always find me."
"You know I will," he whispered.
Snow. It fell softly to the ground, bringing with it joy and sorrow, good and evil, and most importantly love.
But eventually, every snow fall has to end.
And after it snows, a dark fog will settle in.
Just a little one-shot from before the curse. Hope you all liked it! Please review.
