A/N: This was written for my very good friend Megan for Christmas. She has been my best muse and his given me many great ideas, as well as being an amazing friend. I realize that in the movie, Meg was portrayed differently to Christine. She wasn't pushed all the way to the background. I understand this, and I'm seeing how it could have been if it was different.

Until the aftermath of it all, Christine didn't understand. Meg had always been there, the shadow behind her. She grew up with her in a dimmed light while Christine was seemingly on a pedestal.

Sure, she helped Christine overcome her father's death, but that had all for her. Christine had other things on her mind. Meg was in the background, and so she stayed there.

Life soon turned into a horrible nightmare, leaving Christine begging to awaken and find it had all been just a dream. She was torn between her love for Erik and Raoul. She was always either consumed with overwhelming guilt or with blinding, seemingly true love.

Still, Meg was there to dry her tears and sooth her back to sleep with soft words and comforting caresses. She would be back in her bed when Christine would open her eyes the next morning, never speaking a word, humble and not seeking the gratefulness and acknowledgment she deserved.

After returning from the Phantom's lair, clinging to Raoul as her heart raced and her frame trembled, Christine didn't even ask where she was. It had never even crossed her mind.

Then she returned, having raced ahead of the mob, not thinking of her own safety, and was drenched with sweat and pale with fear.

Catching a glimpse of Christine, she threw herself at her, crying fully and speaking of how afraid she had been that she had lost her. She clung to her as if she was merely a mirage, going to disappear as soon as it was looked upon.

Christine realized it then.

Her friend pulled back, chin quivering as the tears fell down her cheeks. From her blond hair to her gentle blue eyes, she was every bit an angel.

She wanted no fame or glory for her generous and selfless actions. She only wanted her friend, with love pure and mind clear.

She had always been there.

Christine just never noticed.
