A/N: This fic, which mostly centers around Conner Kent (aka Superboy) from the Smallville universe, takes place two months before the events of "Two Earths Join Forces Against Another". As readers of "Heroes United, Aliens Invade" should know, Conner stayed behind on Earth-1 after the Dominators Invasion and became a member of the Legends. This fic sort of gives readers a summary of what he went through during his time with them.
Chapter 1
Earth-1
It was just another normal day in Central City, even as Conner Kent, Wally West, and Cisco Ramon, respectively clad in their Superboy, Kid Flash, and Vibe costumes, were chasing after the latest 'meta-human criminal of the week'. This time, the meta was Shawna Baez, also known as Peek-a-Boo, due to her superhuman ability to instantly teleport from one place to another. Conner had spent the last few minutes flying above the city, while Wally had been super-speeding through the streets.
Wally slid to a halt in the middle of the road and spoke into his comms. "I can't find her, guys."
"Neither can I," Conner added, as he flew down and landed next to Wally.
"Boy, I gotta work out more," Cisco complained, as he emerged from a breach placing his hands on his knees in exhaustion. "She's really stepped up her game."
"Then let's turn up ours," the three heroes heard of voice of Detective Joe West announce in their comms. Joe was driving in a police vehicle also trying to apprehend Peek-a-Boo. "I don't have eyes on her. Iris?"
"Copy, I'm on it," they heard Iris West's voice respond. "Looking." She was in the S.T.A.R. Labs cortex looking at a map of the city on the computer screen. "Got her."
"Where?" Conner asked, at the same time Wally said, "And?"
"Duck!" Iris warned.
"I don't see no duck," Wally said in confusion, just as Peek-a-Boo suddenly appeared behind him, Cisco, and Conner.
Before they could react, Peek-a-Boo sucker-punched Wally and Cisco in the face, knocking them on the ground. She tried to do the same to Conner, but immediately let out a loud cry of pain as her fist collided with his face, which felt as tough as steel. As Peek-a-Boo clutched her hand in pain, Conner took advantage of the distraction and punched her in the face with just enough force to knock her unconscious.
Conner turned around and tended to his two teammates. "Are you guys okay?"
"Yeah," Wally replied, as he and Cisco started getting back up. "She meant the other 'duck'."
"Yeah, I cannot believe you actually thought she meant a duck duck," Cisco said.
"Well, the important thing is, we got her," Conner pointed out.
After Joe and several other cops showed up at the scene and Peek-a-Boo was taken to Iron Heights, the heroes headed back to S.T.A.R. Labs.
"I'm so proud of us," Cisco announced with joy, as he, Wally, Conner, and Joe exited the elevator and started walking through the corridor with Iris. "That was a good hustle out there, Team Vibe."
"It's Team Kid Flash, but thank you," Wally corrected.
"If you ask me, I'd say Team Superboy has a better ring to it," Conner suggested with a smirk.
"Well done out there today, gentleman," Iris said. "Let's just hope Shawna doesn't escape like several of the metas that we fought in the last five months have."
"Well, every single one of those metas only escaped temporarily," Conner pointed out. "But we caught them and we put them right back where they belong as always."
"Yep," Wally agreed. "Team Kid Flash is on the case."
"Son, I love you, but ain't nobody feeling Team Kid Flash," Joe said.
"It's like too many syllables," Cisco agreed with Joe. They entered the cortex.
"Wally, why don't you, um, go to the Speed Lab?" Iris instructed. "I've programmed a new training simulation for you. It should only take four hours."
"Four... what?" Wally said, incredulously. "No. What about family dinner tonight? I'm..." As Iris gave him a stern look, he then said, "You know what? Training sounds amazing." Wally headed off.
"Okay," Joe said, looking at Iris in disbelief. "See you at home, boss." He also headed off.
Conner pulled out his inter-dimensional extrapolator. "Hope you guys don't mind, but I'm gonna head back to my Earth now," Conner said to Iris and Cisco. "I mean, it's been almost a year since Clark and my friends last saw me and I feel like owe them that visit."
"Okay," Iris nodded. "Well, Conner, we really appreciate you helping us hold down the fort ever since Barry went into the Speed Force. You've been a major help to our team and something tells me it's you who have something to with the amazing rate we've been going at catching the bad guys lately."
"It's not just me, Iris, it's the whole team that has something to do with it," Conner said.
"You and Barry are so much alike," Iris commented. "That's exactly something he would say too."
"I think it's safe to say that Barry is to this Earth what Clark is to mine," Conner said. "Just like Clark, Barry is a symbol of hope who tries to see the good in even the worst people and inspire them to become the best versions of themselves."
"That's definitely Barry," Iris said, a smile, which was rare for her these days, forming on her face. "Bringing out the best in people seems to be his strongest superpower."
"So, I guess this means from now on it'll just be up to me and Wally to continue protecting this city," Cisco said. "Not that it's anything we can't handle, but I have to say, it was really handy having an intergalactic bulletproof superhero by our side these last five months."
"Don't worry, Cisco, I'm not leaving this Earth permanently," Conner assured him. "It's just for a few days. And when I get back, I still plan on being a member of Team Flash, Team Vibe, or whatever you guys are calling this team."
"It's Team Vibe," Cisco said.
"We'll see you when you get back," Iris said to Conner, who shook her and Cisco's hands.
With that, Conner whooshed out of the building. Once he was outside, he flew up in the air and hovered several hundred feet above the ground. He pressed the button on the extrapolator and flew into the breach that formed before him. A second later, he was no longer on Earth-1.
Earth-21
After reemerging from the other side of the breach, Conner stuck the extrapolator into his pants pocket and wasted no time in flying as fast as he could all the way to Kansas, or more specifically, Metropolis. Not too long after arriving in Metropolis, Conner crossed paths with Clark, who was clad in his Superman suit flying from the opposite direction. Recognizing each other, Conner and Clark halted in mid-air and hovered face-to-face.
"Conner?" Clark said, not believing his eyes. "Hey, you're back!"
"Yeah, I am," Conner replied.
The two of them threw their arms around each other in an embrace. "We've missed you, buddy," Clark said, still in disbelief. "I'm guessing you have quite a story to tell."
"You bet," Conner nodded.
Clark and Conner entered Watchtower. Inside were Oliver and Chloe on the computers, while their son, Roy Sullivan-Queen, was sitting on a couch playing with two action figures, one of Green Arrow and the other of Superman. Oliver, Chloe, and even Roy turned to the newcomers. Looks of surprise appeared on Oliver and Chloe's faces at the sight of Conner, while Roy looked excited to see both Conner and Clark.
"Conner, hey," Chloe gushed.
"Hey, Chloe, Ollie," Conner said.
"When did you get back?" Oliver asked.
"Just now," Conner answered.
Roy eagerly leapt off the couch and ran towards Clark and Conner. "Uncle Clark! And Uncle Conner!"
"Hey, little guy!" Clark said, smiling at Roy.
"Uncle Clark, can you make me fly?!" Roy eagerly asked.
"Sure, come on!" Clark said. He picked Roy up and Roy exclaimed "Whee! Whee!" as Clark spun him around several times. Clark put Roy back on the floor.
Conner bent down to give Roy a hug. "Roy, how you've been? You've been a good boy while I've been gone, huh?" After Roy nodded, Conner then said, "Whoa, you're starting to get taller."
"Yeah! And I'm gonna be taller than you one day, Uncle Conner!" Roy bragged.
Conner chuckled. "You think so?"
"Yeah, I will," Roy answered.
"Okay," Conner nodded. "We'll see about that." He headed over to Oliver and Chloe and gave them each a hug. "I'm glad to see you guys again."
"Same here," Chloe said. She then slapped Conner on the shoulder. "Lois and I are still upset with you, by the way, for making a permanent residence on another Earth without telling us goodbye."
"Would it help if I said I'll make it up to you by telling you, Clark, and Ollie everything I went through on the other Earth this past year?" Conner asked.
"You know what, that's a good idea," Chloe agreed. "I'd love to hear all about Superboy's journeys across the space-time continuum in another corner of the multiverse." She turned to her husband. "How about you, Ollie?"
"Do you even have to ask, sweetheart?" Oliver remarked.
"I guess I'll take that as a 'yes'," Chloe said.
"Superboy, we wanna hear about everything that happened from the moment Clark and I left the other Earth to the moment you came back today," Oliver said to Conner, who nodded in response.
Conner, Clark, Chloe, and Oliver went to sit at the round table where the Justice League usually had their conferences. Roy stayed behind in the main area and continued playing with his action figures.
"Okay, so after you guys left to come back here, Sara took me to the Waverider, which is the name of the ship we traveled through time in, and introduced me to the rest of the Legends," Conner began his story. "Or should I say she reintroduced me, since I'd already met most of them during the fight with the Dominators."
"Who is Sara?" Chloe asked, curious.
"She's the leader of our team," Conner answered. "Her full name is Sara Lance."
"Lance?" Chloe repeated incredulously, while Oliver and Clark kept straight faces since they already knew who Sara was. "Lance as in Dinah Lance?"
Conner nodded. "Sara is the sister of Dinah's counterpart, who was Black Canary like our Dinah until was killed in action."
"What? Dinah's dead on the other Earth?" Chloe asked, shocked by that news.
"That was pretty much the way I reacted too when we first found out about it last year," Oliver commented, thinking back to when Sara had told him, Clark, and Conner about Earth-1 Black Canary's death. "I knew it wasn't our Dinah Lance exactly, but learning that another version of her was dead was still quite unsettling."
"You know what's even more unsettling? The fact that the other Earth's Dinah, or Laurel, as everyone called her, died on April 6th 2016 just like Courtney on this Earth," Conner said, obviously having learned the date from Sara. There were traces of sadness in his voice as he'd spoken his girlfriend's name.
"Really?" Chloe said. "Somehow, I don't think that's just a coincidence."
"It's probably another case of certain events remaining consistent between universes despite having some differences in details," Clark explained. "All these countless Earths in the multiverse are more connected to each other than we realize."
"My thoughts exactly," Conner agreed. "Anyway, during the months I was with the Legends, we've been trying to hunt down this speedster from the future who had put together a team of villains that was basically that Earth's version of the Legion of Doom. You guys are gonna be really surprised to hear this, but one of the villains that Eobard Thawne – that was the name of our enemy speedster – recruited was Lex Luthor. That is, the Lex Luthor of this Earth, believe it or not."
"What?" Chloe and Oliver said, incredulously.
"The Lex from this Earth?" Clark said, not believing his ears.
"Yeah," Conner nodded. "Look, the thing is, it was definitely Lex from this world, but not him from this time. The Lex who was part of Thawne's team was from the year 2020."
"2020? That's three years from now," Chloe said.
"How did Lex even wind up on that Earth?" Clark asked.
"Well, Thawne traveled to this Earth in 2020, snuck into Stryker's where Lex was imprisoned, broke Lex out, and took him to the other Earth," Conner explained. "And, from there, Lex joined Thawne's team."
"So this Thawne character, he gets his powers from the Speed Force like Barry and Bart, right?" Oliver said, with understanding. "And like Barry, that's how he capable of dimension-jumping to different Earths and traveling through time just by running fast enough."
"Exactly," Conner said. "But, of all the members of the Legion, Lex was the only one whom Thawne fetched from a different Earth. The rest were from the other Earth but were just pulled from different points in the timeline."
"I got a question," Chloe said. "How did this Thawne guy know about Lex in the first place?"
"Apparently, Thawne breaking Lex out of prison in 2020 isn't the first time he came here," Conner explained.
"What do you mean?" Clark asked.
"From what I understand, in the further future, like way later than 2020, Thawne traveled here several times and allied himself with Lex and probably some of our other villains as well," Conner explained. "That's how Thawne knew about Lex. Those events may be the future from our point of view, but it's the past for Thawne."
"Because Thawne is from the future," Clark added, nodding understandingly.
"But Lex isn't the only thing that Thawne fetched from this Earth," Conner said. "Since they knew I was part of the Legends as well and realized how much of a liability I'd be because of my powers, the Legion kept themselves armed with green kryptonite weapons in case they had deal with me."
"Here's an idea," Oliver said. "When 2020 rolls around, maybe we should be there at Stryker's when this guy appears and stop him from breaking Lex out in the first place. We can even capture him and throw him in one of the power-dampening cells."
Conner shook his head. "As convenient as that sounds, Ollie, not a good idea, trust me."
"We must let the break-out happen," Clark said. "If we intervene in any way, not only would we be putting the timeline of this Earth in jeopardy, but also the one of the other Earth."
"Right, right," Oliver nodded. "So, no intervention at Stryker's in 2020. Got it. For a moment there, the consequences that comes with changing time completely slipped my mind. After all, I'm not as good at understanding all this time travel mumbo-jumbo as you guys are."
"Another question," Chloe said to Conner. "What exactly were Lex and his team of baddies' evil plan that you and your new friends needed to put a stop to?"
"The Legion's goal was to locate this really powerful artifact called the Spear of Destiny, which would allow them to rewrite reality basically in their own image," Conner explained.
"The Spear of Destiny, I've heard of that before," Clark said.
"So have I," Chloe added.
"If I recall correctly, the Spear of Destiny is also known as the Holy Lance," Clark said. "It was the weapon supposedly used..."
"By a Roman soldier who pierced the side of Christ after he died on the cross," Oliver finished.
"That's the same on the other Earth," Conner said. "While it the Legion's goal to find the spear and rewrite reality with it, ours was to find it before they did and destroy it before it ever ended up in the wrong hands. Eventually, we got our hands on the spear, but it turned out that it could only be destroyed by one thing: the blood of Christ."
An intrigued look appeared on Chloe's face. "Wait, if that's the case, does that mean you guys traveled back in time to when Christ was actually still alive? That had to have been some meeting! I mean, I can't exactly imagine there being others ways possible to get your hands on his blood other than from the savior himself."
"Actually, that's not what we did," Conner said. "Well, I do remember Sara suggesting that we go back to the day of the crucifixion to get some of his blood, but this guy Rip Hunter, who was the original leader of the team before Sara took over, quickly shot that idea down since he said that particular moment in history was too important for anybody to mess with, no matter what our intentions are."
"He's definitely not wrong," Clark nodded. "Making small changes from as recent as last week can cause negative consequences to the timeline. You can't begin to imagine the havoc that can come about from tampering with a major event like the crucifixion, not to mention the fact that that's over two thousand years' worth of history that could change irrevocably."
"So were you guys able to find a way to destroy this Spear of Destiny thing?" Oliver asked.
"We discovered that there was a vial of Christ's blood buried in France in the year 1916 during World War I," Conner explained. "So we traveled there. But, while we were in 1916, we encountered another version of the Legends."
"Another version of the Legends?" Oliver repeated, confused. "You mean, like, there were two sets of you guys in 1916?"
Conner nodded. "The other Legends were versions of us who came back to 1916 a second time after things didn't go so well the first time we were in that year. Originally, the spear ended up in the Legion's hands and they succeeded in changing reality to how they wanted."
"And whatever undoubtedly hellish world the Legion created with the spear is what led you and your team to making the second trip back to 1916 to set things right," Chloe added, with full understanding.
"Not all of our future selves made it back, though," Conner continued. He let out a sigh. "Some of us were killed while we were in the Legion's reality... including me." Solemn looks instantly appeared on Clark, Chloe, and Oliver's faces as Conner went on with the story. "I guess my future self had his powers taken away by the spear when the Legion used it."
"Well, the fact that you're sitting here with us right now obviously means you turned out okay in the end," Clark said. "That's one benefit of time travel."
"Yeah," Conner muttered, suddenly wishing Courtney's life had been saved by time travel the way his was. "So, after meeting what was left of the Future Legends, we teamed up with them during the final battle against the Legion. Almost all the members of the Future Legends ended up killed, but we still managed to defeat the Legion, minus Thawne, who was nowhere to be seen at the time. With our enemies down for the count, we started making our way back to the Waverider and that's when he showed up..."
(Flashback)
"Can't believe we made it," an exosuit-clad Ray Palmer said, relieved they'd beaten the Legion of Doom.
"Don't jinx it," Future Sara Lance said, just as the Reverse-Flash suddenly appeared and super-sped around the Legends in a streak of red lightning.
"Aw, he jinxed it," Jax Jefferson exclaimed.
"I hate that guy," Mick Rory growled.
"Not that guy!" Eobard Thawne remarked. "THESE GUYS!"
Several dozen time remnants that Thawne had created suddenly appeared and gathered all around the Legends.
"You traveled back in time to help yourself," Thawne continued, "I figured I could do the same. You know, it's true what they say. If you want something done right, you really have to do it yourself. Give me the spear and I'll spare your team."
"You can go to hell," Professor Martin Stein boldly responded, as he and the rest of the Legends were glaring daggers at their yellow-clad enemy.
"No, but I'll make a hell for you," Thawne threatened, unfazed by Stein's harsh response. "Last chance."
"Use the spear," Amaya Jiwe whispered to Present Sara, who was holding the aforementioned artifact.
At that moment, Thawne's time remnants rushed forward as they started attacking the Legends. Jax and Stein were the first to be punched and knocked to the ground by the remnants. Nate transformed his body into steel as he and Conner started punching the many copies of Thawne, while Ray started firing energy beams at them. Mick, Rip Hunter, and Future Sara were next to be knocked down by Thawne's time remnants.
Keeping it clutched in her hand, Present Sara stood the spear on the ground as she started speaking the incantation from the Kalabros Manuscript. The tip of the spear started glowing brightly. Unable to successfully activate the spear, Sara turned to Amaya.
"It can't be me," Sara said, and then offered to spear to Amaya. "Use it. Fix the world."
Both Sara and Amaya were suddenly knocked to the ground by one of Thawne's remnants, causing the spear to fly out of Sara's hand and land on the ground.
Having noticed what happened, Conner sped over to the spear, picked it up, and helped Present Sara to her feet.
"Use the spear, Conner," Sara said.
Conner frowned. "Me? You want me to..."
"Just use it," Sara urged. "Fix this world. I tried, but there's too much darkness inside of me. I couldn't control it. But if there's anyone who is the most capable of doing the right thing, it's you."
Conner hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Okay." Standing the spear on the ground as it was clutched firmly in his hand, Conner started speaking the incantation which he remembered very clearly thanks to his half-Kryptonian brain's ability to process information at a much faster rate than regular humans. The tip of the spear glowed once more. Conner closed his eyes as he was engulfed in a bright white light...
...and opened them again as he found himself inside the living room of the Kent home. He was sitting on the couch, a large bowl of popcorn resting on the table in front of him. The movie showing on the television was The Wizard of Oz, complete with the character Dorothy speaking her famous line, "There is no place like home."
"Okay, Kon, I'm back!" a female voice he recognized anywhere happily announced.
Conner instantly turned around, eyes widened and his jaw practically dropping to the floor at who he was seeing. He couldn't believe it! Heading towards Conner, alive and well, and beautiful as ever, was his girlfriend Courtney Whitmore. She was holding two glasses of ice cream float, one in each hand.
"I've whipped us up your favorite," Courtney continued, a wide grin on her angelic face. "Ice cream floats. Here you go." She handed one to Conner.
Conner, who couldn't stop staring at her, sat the ice cream float down, leapt up without saying a word, wrapped his arms around Courtney, and started kissing her passionately. They stopped kissing after about fifteen seconds and gazed directly into each other's eyes. Conner stroked a lock of Courtney's curly blonde hair.
"I've missed you so much, Courtney," Conner breathed out. A tear escaped his left eye and traveled down his face. "But I realize that this isn't real. This is the spear doing this. You're still dead in the real world."
"Yes, I am," Courtney said, placing her thumb on Conner's face to wipe away his tear.
Conner pondered for a moment as he and Courtney sat down on the couch. "The spear allows its user to remake reality however they see fit," Conner said, picking up the artifact in question. "Maybe... maybe I can bring you back. I can undo your death. And then we can be together again. We can actually get married. I was gonna propose to you, Courtney."
"I know," Courtney said, smiling. "And I would've said yes without a doubt." She stroked Conner's face. "I want you to know that I'll always be with you, Kon, no matter what. And I'll never stop loving you. But I've lived my life already. My time was up."
"But it doesn't have to be," Conner pointed out, more tears falling down his face. "With the power of the spear, I can bring you back to life, Courtney. I can erase what Parasite did to you that day. In fact, I can even make sure he doesn't get his powers in the first place."
"Your job is to save the entire world, Kon, not just one person," Courtney countered. "Even if that one person is me. I understand a hundred percent how much you love me, but if I was really meant to still be alive, I would be. It's like what Clark always told us. We shouldn't use the powers that we've been given to play God, and he's right. No one should choose who lives and who dies. Your heart is pure, Kon, just like Clark's. So use the spear to do only what you were meant to do. And that's to help your team."
Conner pondered again, then nodded. "You're right," he said, his eyes still filled with tears. "Bringing you back, it would be like playing God." He let out a heavy sigh. "I love you, Courtney."
"I love you too," Courtney said, before the two shared another passionate kiss. "Remember, Kon, I'm never too far away."
Before Conner's eyes, the images of Courtney and the living room suddenly faded away as he found himself back in the real world. Just before he returned to his senses, the spear was swiped out of his hand by the Reverse-Flash.
"Too slow, Superboy," Thawne said, smugly. "Far too slow... especially for you. Then again, that's the difference between a Kryptonian like you and a speedster like me. I'm faster. To think, you had actual godhood literally in your grasp. Well, I'm not going to make the mistake I made the first time. I'm going to erase you all from existence. You won't even be dead."
Thawne stood the spear on the ground and started speaking the incantation. Nothing happened. Thawne frowned as he stared at the spear in confusion.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you," Conner said, giving Thawne a smug look. "I did manage to make one change to reality."
"You de-powered the spear," Thawne realized.
"You already tampered with reality once, Thawne," Conner said. "You won't be doing it again."
"If you think you've won here, Superboy, think again," Thawne chuckled, pulling out a green kryptonite ring.
Suddenly overwhelmed by extreme pain, dizziness, and nausea all at once, Conner groaned as he collapsed to his knees from the poisonous radiation.
"I guess we'll just have to do this the old-fashioned way," Thawne said, as he aimed the spear down at the weakened Conner. "I am going to drive this through your heart."
At that moment, Thawne stopped dead in his tracks at the sound of ferocious growling. He looked up and his smug expression was instantly replaced by a horrified one at the sight of the Black Flash standing about fifty feet away from him.
"No," Thawne muttered in absolute horror. He attempted to super-speed away, but the Black Flash caught him, seized him by the neck with one hand, and phased its other hand through Thawne's chest. Thawne, along with the spear and kryptonite ring, both of which he was holding, started disintegrating.
"NOOO!" Thawne screamed helplessly as he, as well as the spear and kryptonite ring, vanished into thin air. The same happened to all of Thawne's time remnants as well.
As the effects of the kryptonite were gone, Conner got back up as his strength returned. The Black Flash appeared in front of Conner, roared in his face, and super-sped.
The rest of the Legends climbed up to their feet. Both the present and future Saras turned to Conner.
"Nice job, Conner," the Saras said at the same time.
"I know you probably disagree, Sara, but I think you would've done the same thing if you were in my shoes," Conner said.
As Future Sara started shimmering, she looked at her teammates with a smile and said, "Remember, Legends never die." With that, she disappeared as if she was never there in the first place...
(End of Flashback)
"That was pretty smart of you, Conner," Oliver said. "Activating the spear and then neutralizing its powers so that it would no longer work when Thawne tried to use it again. Now, that black speedster with the decaying face who showed up and finished Thawne off, who was that supposed to be?"
"It's some kind of being from the Speed Force sent to hunt speedsters who cause too much damage to the timeline," Conner answered. "It's been hunting Thawne for months until it finally caught up to him in 1916 and ended him."
"Well, I can't say that I feel too bad for him," Chloe said. "I mean, I'm not usually one to condone murder, but it sounded like Thawne, after all his actions, really had it coming."
"Agreed," Oliver said. "If Lex isn't such a sociopathic, murderous asshole already, I must say this Thawne guy definitely gets the slight edge of being the bigger of the two evils, not helped by the fact that he's a dangerous speedster who can literally go anywhere he wants."
"I'm proud of you, Conner," Clark said. "The decision you made while you were wielding the spear showed great maturity and selflessness. You could've chosen to undo Courtney's death at the hands of Parasite, yet you decided to help your team and stop Thawne instead."
"Or you could've done both, you know," Chloe added. "Brought Stargirl back and still defeated the big bads."
"You're right, Chloe," Conner nodded. "I could've went that route and got the best of both worlds." He turned to Clark. "But then I was reminded of what you've always told me, Clark. You know, how we're not Gods and that we shouldn't abuse our powers as such." He paused for a moment before continuing. "The thing is, after my experience when I activated the spear, I came to the point where I feel like I've finally made peace with what happened to Courtney last year. I finally accepted her death and I'm able to move on knowing she's watching over me twenty-four-seven. Which is why I'm okay with the decision I've made that day. And so is she." With that, Conner decided to get back to his story. "Anyway, after Thawne was taken care of, we took the other Legion members back to their proper places in time. In Lex's case, since he's from this Earth, we had to go to S.T.A.R. Labs and get Cisco's help. Cisco came with us in the Waverider to 2020. He opened a breach and then we brought Lex to this Earth and took him back to Stryker's right where Thawne had found him."
"So Lex, while he may be the leading the country as we speak, will be impeached and thrown in prison sometime by 2020, which is only three years from now," Oliver said. "That's good to know."
"What's not good is that Lex will eventually be armed with the knowledge of the multiverse's existence after his time-traveling adventures with the other Earth's Legion of Doom," Clark added.
"Oh, about that," Conner said. "I don't think Lex remembers anything about his time with the Legion. We've erased their memories so that the timelines of both this Earth and the other one could remain as intact as possible."
"But what about the fact that, even without taking into account Thawne breaking Lex out of Stryker's in 2020, the two of them still meet eventually and get acquainted sometime even further in the future?" Clark pointed out.
"Good point," Conner said.
"I guess we'll cross that bridge once we get to it," Oliver said.
"So, with Lex back where he belongs, we returned to the other Earth," Conner continued. "Cisco headed back to S.T.A.R. Labs, while the other Legends and I in the Waverider got caught up in some sort of time storm."
"A time storm?" Chloe questioned, having no idea what that was except that it couldn't be anything good.
"Basically, a time storm is what happens when time itself gets screwed up in a really major way," Conner explained. "It turned out that being encountered by future versions of ourselves while we were in 1916 caused bigger problems than we thought. After we crashed the Waverider in Los Angeles due to the time storm, we got out to find dinosaurs roaming around in the present and buildings standing where they shouldn't. And then Rip Hunter showed up telling us how it's been five years from his point of view since he last saw us while it's only been fifteen minutes on our end. Then he relieved us from our time-traveling duties after explaining that he had formed some organization called the Time Bureau to deal with the mess we've made and we were left with no choice but to return to our normal lives."
"And judging by the sound of your voice, I'm guessing you were less than okay with that decision," Chloe noted.
"To be honest, I wasn't exactly thrilled about Rip letting us go the way he did," Conner said. "I enjoyed the time-traveling stuff while it lasted. But I'm also enjoying what I'm doing now, helping Barry's team protect Central City while he's in the Speed Force."
"Wait, Barry's in the Speed Force?" Clark asked. "How?"
"Apparently, after Barry and his team defeated some other villainous speedster named Savitar, the Speed Force started becoming unstable, resulting in a storm appearing throughout Central City," Conner explained, going off of information he'd learned from Cisco, Wally, and Iris while he'd been working with them. "And the only way to stabilize the Speed Force again and stop the storm was if a speedster went inside it. So that's what Barry did."
"I can't help but notice that's two supernatural storms in a row that occurred on the other Earth," Chloe commented. "Now I'm not so sure if I'd ever like to set foot there."
"How long has it been since Barry went into the Speed Force?" Clark asked.
"Almost five months," Conner answered. "Since then, I've been helping the rest of his team hold down the fort and it's what I plan on continuing to do."
"How long do you plan on staying here?" Clark asked, since was clear to him that Conner hadn't returned home to stay for good.
"I guess for a few days or so," Conner answered.
"You must be really happy making yourself at home on that other Earth," Chloe said.
"Well, as much as I like sticking around on the other Earth and being around the people there that I've managed to make friends with, this one will always be considered my true home," Conner said. "Nothing can ever change that."
"Even though your return is only temporary, Conner, it's good to have you back either way," Clark said.
"Don't worry, you guys will have plenty of visits from me in the future," Conner promised, as he pulled out his extrapolator. "See? Thanks to Cisco, I can never be too far away."
Suddenly, Clark heard a beeping coming from his phone. He pulled it out and looked at the screen. "Police chase," he said to the others. "I gotta go."
"I'll give you a hand," Conner offered.
"Sure," Clark nodded.
Wasting no time, Superman and Superboy whooshed out of the Watchtower building to help the police.
A/N: Since I had Superboy be an addition to the Legends in this fic series, I thought it was quite fitting to do the same with the Legion of Doom by having the Reverse-Flash also recruit Smallville Lex, who was a member alongside Damien Darhk, Malcolm Merlyn, and Captain Cold. If you think about it, this would sort of make Conner & Lex good/evil counterparts. Both originate from Earth-21 and are token non-Earth-1 members of their respective time-traveling teams, bonus points for the fact that Conner is Lex's partial clone.
To elaborate a little more on how Thawne knows Lex, Thawne's been to the Smallville Universe numerous times in the future during the points of his life prior to traveling back to 2000 and killing Barry's mom. He's teamed up with Lex and several other villains while he was on Earth-21, which I confirm occurred during the early to mid-2020s, and even fought Clark, Bart, Ollie, and other Justice League members at certain points. As for how Thawne feels about Earth-21's Flash, he doesn't consider him an enemy on the same personal level as Earth-1's Flash. Thawne merely likes to taunt and antagonize Bart out of pure spite and doesn't have any real feelings of animosity towards him other than them being on opposing sides, whereas (just like in canon) he genuinely hates Barry with a passion and considers him his worst enemy ever.
