Annabeth can feel her world crash around her as Luke leaves. She bangs her head on the wall, wondering how she had been so naive and stupid and helpless that she had let someone break her walls.
They had just been talking, a friendly conversation even though they were way more than friends. Annabeth recalls their last conversation, a bittersweet smile finding its place on her tear-streaked face.
"Hey Luke," Annabeth greeted her boyfriend, a sweet smile settling on her lips. Luke grins, running his fingers through her blonde tresses. His hands settle on her waist, and he pulls her in, kissing her sweetly. Annabeth sighs against his lips, and she runs her hand through his closely cropped hair. It had been so long since he'd kissed her like this.
Annabeth pulled away, lowering her hands to her shoulders and giving Luke a hug. She wore a flowy floral print dress and purple heels, her hair in a delicate braid resting on her shoulder.
"Hey Bethie," Luke had grinned, and oh god, she loved it when he smiled like this, a smile she thought was reserved only for her. "What's the special occasion? You look amazing."Annabeth frowned. Luke's easygoing expression melted off his face, quickly being replaced by a pout. "What did I say? Did I forget something?" He said.
"Luke, It's our 3 year anniversary." Annabeth's heart broke as she saw his upset frown be replaced by a look of understanding. That's how it started, and that's how it ended. Annabeth couldn't suck up her pride, and Luke refused to give up. Such a stupid way for such a great relationship to end, she thought bitterly.
Consumed by another round of tears, she didn't notice the tall shadow hover over her.
"P-p-percy?" she said through her tears. Percy Jackson was, for lack of better word, a punk. He had a tall, tanned frame and his raven black hair was shaved off on half of his head with the tips dyed the same color of his eyes, which were a brilliant sea-green.
"Hey Annabeth," Percy stuttered, his cheeks turning red. They were in the same dormitory, and had several courses together, but they had rarely talked, other than than the occasional hello in the halls and question about that English essay they had to write.
Percy rolled his lip ring underneath his tongue, his biceps flexing as he ran a hand through his hair. Annabeth stares as he does so.
"Um, are you okay? I mean, you were like crying and stuff and I heard you and I mean you sounded sad and like I heard a door slam and then - feel free to cut me off, I have a tendency to ramble around girls who are pretty or crying and you're both-" Percy muttered, turning bright red.
Once again, Annabeth is rendered helpless at the sight of Percy, her tears stopping long enough for her to give him a watery smile, turning bright red herself.
"It's nothing. I guess I just need a hug." Annabeth said honestly. Percy grinned.
"And a hug you shall get."
Annabeth smiled.
