Author's note: just a short story I thought of after Blagden's song. I hope you like it :3
He'd only been here for a few minutes, and Grantaire already hated heaven. He wasn't even sure how he got here; after all the drinking and hating he'd done in his life, he'd sure he'd landed himself in Hell. But sure enough, here he was, with bullet holes in his chest.
He was sure the others were up here as well. They were just in another area, that's all. They were here. He wasn't alone.
He hoped.
We were holding hands.
No. The more you think of him, the harder it'll be to see him punctured with bullets.
Grantaire sits on the polished marble floor of heaven. It definitely wasn't what he had pictured, but it was still nice. An endless marble floor with various buildings and such, everything you could ever ask for.
Except him-
Grantaire stopped himself. He couldn't think of him, not today.
"You're 'ere. You died too." A soft voice appeared behind him. Grantaire turned to see a frail girl in tattered clothes with a large gunshot wound in her abdomen. Her smile was sad, but still had traces of hope, somehow.
"Ponine," Grantaire said with a smile. He embraced her tightly, glad that someone was here. He wasn't alone.
"Is…is Mar-"
"He's still alive." Grantaire could feel Eponine almost collapse in relief.
The two separated, and looked at each other with the same sad smile, a sad smile that knew what was in store. And in heaven, there was really nothing.
"I just wish everyone else was here," Grantaire said softly, glancing behind him, hoping to catch a glimpse of anyone: Joly, Courfeyrac, Enj-
No. Not right now.
But suddenly Grantaire felt a warm hand on his shoulder.
"Thank you for not letting me die alone."
Grantaire turned, and before anything else could be said, threw himself into Enjolras' arms. The usually stoic Enjolras embraced Grantaire tightly, not wanting to let go. Grantaire nested his head in Enjolras' shoulder, finding that it was a perfect fit, like it was meant to be.
"I've always loved you." He whispered.
"I know. You were just too drunk to realize I felt the same."
Giggles suddenly erupted from Grantaire's body, making the both of them shake. Enjolras joined him until they were both laughing into each other's necks.
"Everything's gonna be okay."
"Yeah. Yeah it is."
