My breath clouded my vision. It was late in a winter night, and I was alone. Again. On Christmas Eve. I sighed and leaned back against the cold hard bricks. Puffing into my hands to keep them warm, I heard the light rasping of footsteps in the snow. My ears perked up, and my tail curled. Squinting against the old street lap light, my eyes caught a shivering Sasuke heading my way.
"Oh, Kimaro. You're alone?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah..."
"Why aren't you with your friends?"
"You know.. They had.. Stuff..."
"Boy, you're just a joy to talk to."
He commented sarcastically. But I was used to his monotone comments. The ones that no-one could read. But me. I huffed anyway, and pouted like a child. He nudged my arm and laughed. We talked for what seemed like forever. But that's probably just because I enjoyed being with him. It became much later, and the only light was the street light, which danced across our faces as we stood there. Continually smiling at him, I listened to every word he said. I could've swore I was dreaming. He seemed so cool yet nonchalant.
"Well, I'll be."
Called a familiar voice from atop the brick wall.
"It's Kimaro and Sasuke! Why aren't you with your team, Sasuke-boy?"
She referred to him in a teasing manner, obviously getting on his nerves.
"Not your business, Ayako."
Sasuke hissed. She flicked her fluffy fox tail, which had something on it, but she moved it to fast for me to catch. Her smirk was sharp and wicked.
"Right,right. But.."
She seated herself, ears forward, tail lingering in the air above us.
"Rin gave me special orders to insure Kimaro has a happy Eve. Though, she left how to do it, to me."
Glancing up I saw the mistletoe wrapped around the tip of her tail. Every shade of pink appeared on my face. I expected Sasuke to walk away, but he stayed. And instead of being blazing mad, he smiled. He reached out and grabbed my arm, drawing my closer to him. My ears fell back as his chin grazed my head while he wrapped his arms around me in a hug. My long thin cat tail swayed back and forth in a most pleased way. After a few moments of embracing, he drew back and lifted my chin with his finger.
"I've wanted to tell you this for a long time.."
He leaned in and our lips locked. My stomached flipped. My heart felt like it would break through my chest. And I heard a few final words from Ayako,
"Looks like my work here, is done."
Before she vanished. And I already new what Sasuke was going to say.
(If it was short I'm sorry. Perhaps I'll do a longer story later.)
