When Brothers Reunite

Summary: A short story about how Tommy and Dil start sharing a room again, after obtaining separate rooms in Acorn Nuts and Diapied Butts. Takes place between the end of Season 9 and Rugrats and the Gray Plague. Thank you blossom2019 for pointing this out, and inspiring this story.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the original Rugrats characters, they're the property of their original creaters.

It happened a couple of nights before everyone went away for the weekend and Tommy got sick with that Gray Plague when it finally happened. The Pickles had had enough of Dil keeping them awake at night. No matter what they did, for several nights in a row at this point, Dil would wake up crying, and wouldn't go back to sleep. Stu and Didi were doing everything they could to calm Dil down. From rocking and singing him to sleep, to giving him extra bottles of milk, and even many of the suggestions given in that Lipchitz book they used during that night Tommy and Chuckie were afraid of the sand man putting too much sand on them, and a terrible wind storm was going on. We all know that in the end, the sand man turned out to be Chuckie's dad, but anyway, Stu and Didi went as far as to do that puppet show they did that night to try to get Tommy and Chuckie to go back to sleep, but just as it didn't work on them, it didn't work on Dil either. After a while, Stu and Didi just, gave up. It finally got to where Tommy had to come to the rescue, as Dil would wake him up too.

Tommy POV

After my grandpa moved out, mommy and daddy gave me my own room, and I slept where my grandpa use to sleep. I liked it cuz if I waked up in the night to have an adventure, I wouldn't be as likely to wake Dil up. But Dil was waking up anyways. I spent most nights, heading into Dil's room, peaking in through the bars of his crib, and reaching my hand in several times, to where Dil would hold my hand, till he went back to sleep. Once he gotted back to sleep, I'd go back to my room, only to have Dil start crying again a little while later. Mommy and daddy would wake up at this point, and we'd be up all night with Dil. There were days when I never thought I'd need a nappy so bad in my entire life. Finally, I decided that maybe I should stay all night in Dilly's room with him, and see if he kept quiet and went to sleep. Well, I did that one night, and stayed there until the next morning. Mommy and daddy not only woke up rested, but mommy noticed me on the floor near Dil's crib, and noticed Dil didn't cry at all the entire night.

Didi POV

For several nights, Dil was keeping me and Stu awake, making it impossible for us to sleep. We would be heading up to the beach soon to visit grandpa Lou and grandma Lulu, and I really didn't need us sleep deprived. A couple of days before we left for that trip, I went in to wake up Dil to find Tommy on the floor by Dil's crib. Then it hit me, Dil didn't cry all night at all! Now I realized what was bothering Dil. Apparently giving them their own rooms was not the best idea. So Stu and I moved Tommy back into Dil's room, opening up grandpa's old room to be a guest room slash office, and for the most part, our nights have been peaceful ever since.

Tommy POV

So after mommy founded me protecting Dilly, I moved back in with him, which I didn't mind. I missed Dilly too, and I'm glad I could make him happy.
