School

Draco skirted round the edge of the table, making sure not to make a noise, they would kill him. Draco though about it, literally kill him, he decided. That's why he must not make a noise. Creeping under the table, he could just about make out the words that his mother and father were saying to each other.

"Lucius, I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times, I am not going to let Draco go to school, he's too young!"

My dear he's five, for goodness sake!" Lucius chipped in, " Any normal child will be at school by now, and even been there for a year or two!"

There was a silence, before Narcissa wept, " But he's my baby Lucius," Mother was obviously upset, "My little baby!"

"Obviously you have no sense left in you!" Snarled Lucius. Even from his place under the table, Draco could sense the bitterness in his father's tone, " If he doesn't go to school soon, the muggle government is going to get involved, they might take him awaayyy!"

And with that, Narcissa broke down into salty sobs.

From his place under the table, Draco could see his father lurched forward and grab her by the shoulders, proceeding to shake her.

"GET CONTROL OF YOURSELF WOMAN, " he shrieked, " YOU ARE NOT TO CRY INFRONT OF ME, UNDER MY ROOF!"

" Y-yes dear." Narcissa murmured. " But I can't have my little baby going to school, "H-he'll be b-bullied a-and he'll be unhappy."

" You never seemed to care before." Lucius' word's stung like acid, " You've never cared."

Narcissa blinked, unable to find he right thing to say to this.

Draco didn't want to hear any more. School! School was full of big, bad bullies, so Mama said. Carefully, Draco slid out form under the table, and carefully mad his up the stairs, mulling over the information that he had just heard. Mother hadn't been allowed to cry either. Did that mean that she had as low-a status as Draco?

Shaking his head, Draco realised that he would never really understand grown-ups, they were far to confusing for their own good.

The one thing that Draco did understand about them, was that they loved to get rid of their children as quick as they could.
