Chapter 1 – Prologue
-Dusk High School, Courtyard-
"What!?" cried a cute blonde girl. "This has to be a joke! Right, Sora!?" the girl asked, seemingly shocked.
"Look, Rikku… I'm sorry. Dad is the reason I gotta go…" a spiky, brown haired boy with a well built body said. The boy was Sora, a young athlete and star of the Dusk High School.
"I can't... accept it! I just can't! It's all of a sudden!" Rikku cried sorrowfully. "Only yesterday... the four of us were...happy... hanging out... and today you're leaving me!?" Rikku shrieked while shedding tears. "You can't! I know you won't! I won't let you!" Rikku proceeded to hug Sora.
"For god's sake! Calm down, Rikku!" a silver haired girl joined her friends. "It's not Sora's fault if his dad's opening a new business."
"Yeah, listen to Paine..." Sora said while trying to comfort the whimpering blonde girl. "If I had it in me, I would never leave you and transfer to another school. Especially when the said school is Dawn." The spiky haired brunette said, with an emphasis of hatred on the word 'Dawn'.
"But I gotta go... Dad's business stuff is important."
Rikku was crying deeply, and she kept hugging her best friend who was leaving on this very day. "For ten years we've been together... and now... we have to split up..." the girl cried.
"Rikku..." Sora embraced the once light-hearted, cheerful girl.
"Look at you two, just like a couple. How sweet." a boy with spiky blonde hair said, who had stealthily crept into the scene. His name was Roxas, Sora's cousin and an intellectual student of Dusk High.
"You seem excited." Paine said to Roxas, who shrugged.
"Perhaps. The new school has... academically took my interest. Suits the nature of such as my own." Roxas said.
"I see." Paine said.
"I see? That's all? Really?" Roxas asked. He and Paine seem to be ignoring the embrace being shared between Sora and Rikku.
"What else am I supposed to say?" Paine asked.
"I don't know. Maybe like... I'm going to miss you and your overwhelming brilliance, Roxas." Roxas said what he was expecting to hear from Paine. Then again, this was Paine.
"You expect me to utter words like that?" Paine said and laughed lightly.
"Not really, I guess." Roxas said. "Hey, you two 'lovebirds'! Are you planning on hugging all day?" Roxas joked, and Paine joined the blonde in a laughter.
"O-oh." Sora said. "You okay, Rikku?" Sora asked after breaking their hug.
Rikku slowly nodded her head. "Come on, Sora. I wanna spend as much time as I can with you."
"Did you forget we still have class, Rikku?"
"Oh yeah. Well, don't forget I'm sitting next to Sora!" Rikku said.
"Rikku, you always sit next to me." Sora said.
"Well I can't anymore, can I? So let me have one last moment with you..." Rikku said, her voice going down with each word.
"Rikku... it's not like we'll never see each other again..."
"Let's go!" Rikku said and pulled Sora's arm, leading him back to their class.
Roxas sighed while looking around the courtyard. "To be honest, I'm actually going to miss this school."
"Really?" Paine asked, surprised at his words.
"Well yeah. Not only the school, but you, the other guys, the girls I used to tutor. Everyone. Even the teachers, and that funny security guard, Thomas."
"Not bad. I thought you will keep those to yourself."
"Well I thought you will understand."
"Consider that I did." Paine said.
Just then, a group of very attractive girls came running towards Roxas. They were among the girls who Roxas has tutored in the years. "Roxas! We just heard! You're really leaving us?!" A girl who went by the name - said.
"This is such a bolt from the blue, Roxas." Another girl who went by the name 'Olette' said. "I'm really going to miss you..." Olette said emotionally. Most of her feats in exams were courtesy of Roxas' tutelage.
"Likewise, Olette. Just keep in my mind on everything I've told you girls."
"Okay, Roxas..." a girl whined. "You never gave me a kiss..."
"That's because I never promised you one." Roxas said.
"Paine, aren't you going to miss Roxas and Sora?" Olette asked.
"Of course I will. Sora's my best friend, and Roxas..." Paine crossed her arms and continued. "... well he's a good friend."
Roxas rolled his eyes and chuckled. "Thanks for that."
Olette laughed, since Roxas and Paine have always kept their friendship in a professional manner.
"Okay, you two. We'll be going. Goodbye, Roxas. Don't forget to email me once in a while." Olette said.
Roxas nodded his head. "You have my word, Let."
"What about us!?" the others girls asked in unison.
"Fine, I'll keep in touch with you girls too."
"Yes! Maybe through the internet I'll get Roxas..." a girl said.
"You can certainly try." Roxas said. "Anyways, I should be heading back to class. Bye, Olette. Take care, everyone." Roxas said. "You coming, Paine?"
Paine nodded. "Come on. We should go see what Rikku's been doing to Spikes."
In their classroom, Sora and Rikku were sitting next to each other, as they have always had. Rikku was hugging Sora sorrowfully, unable to let go of him. "I'm really gonna miss you..." Rikku said softly.
"Me too, Rikku..."
"... there was so much... I wanted to tell you..."
"Huh? What do you mean?" Sora asked.
Rikku quickly backed away from Sora, breaking their embrace. "N-nothing! Nothing!"
"But, you said... you wanted to tell me something?"
"I swear! Just... random words! That's all!" Rikku tried covering up something, known only to her.
"... okay." Sora said. He did not bother suspecting the ever playful and slightly immature Rikku he had known for most of his 16 years of life.
"Am I interrupting something?" the biology teacher, Professor Rina asked, entering the class for her period of the class.
"No, Professor Rina." Sora said and went towards the teacher's table.
"This is a surprise, Mr Young. I've just been been made aware of your transfer to Dawn High." Rina said.
"Oh yeah. I'm still surprised myself."
"I see. And what about Roxas? How does he feel about this matter?" Rina asked.
"Rox looks like he's exited. But... not me."
"Why's that?" Rina asked checking the class's record book.
"Well..." Sora leaned against the teacher's table and said. "... first of all... most of the guys from Dawn High are kinda like... my enemies... you know, professor?"
"Yes, yes..."
"And of course... I'm gonna miss my friends... especially my best friends..." Sora said, glancing to a distant Rikku sitting at on her table shaking her legs playfully. "... especially Rikku... and Paine..." Sora said in a much quieter tone.
"Do not be worried. You're sure to find friends at your new school, Mr Young. You're very sociable and one of the kindest students I have known."
"It's not me who's worried, it's Rikku... She's sad because I'm leaving."
"She's sad? Oh yes, you've been best friends with the young lady, haven't you? Hold on then, I'll talk with her. Miss Rodriguez! Come over here for a moment." Professor Rina called on the girl. Rikku stood up from her seat and came forward.
"W-what is it, Professor Rina?"
"Sora tells me you are sad that he's leaving for another school?"
Rikku looked at the ground, and slowly nodded her head.
"Rikku, it's not like you will not be seeing him again. If you're sad, don't you think it will affect Sora too?" Rina said. "As a close friend, you must wish him well so he will succeed in Dawn just as he had here."
"Yes..."
"Rikku..." Sora hated this. He hated Dawn City, the reason why his Rikku was sorrowed.
"I-I'll be alright..." the particularly sensitive girl said.
It was the end of the last period, English. The professor, Jill, stood up. "Alright, everyone. Let's say goodbye to our boys, Sora and Roxas." The woman who had grew very fond of the two spiky haired boys said. Everyone turned their attention to Sora and Roxas Young who were leaving for the neighbour city, Dawn.
"Aww... I'm gonna miss you, Sora!" a girl squealed.
"It's been a hell of a ride, ya?" Wakka said.
"... see ya." Tidus said quietly.
"You alright, Tidus?" Sora asked.
"Yeah, I'm good." Tidus said, and he and Sora shared a man hug. Wakka, Reno and Rassler, Sora's 'former' soccer teammates and close friends, also joined in.
"Take care, my brother." Wakka said.
"Yeah. If any bozos mess with you or Rox, give a call." Reno said.
"Dream on!" Sora said playfully. "Bye, guys. See you soon!"
Meanwhile, Roxas surrounded by a group of girls he used to tutor, also, his fangirls.
"We're going to miss you, Roxy..."
"I'll email you, don't worry." Roxas said steadily. "We'll keep in touch, girls."
"Yes! Roxas will soon date me!"
"U-uh, except that." Roxas said. He then walked out of the class with Sora, Rikku and Paine.
"Well... I suppose this is going to be our last walk out together." Paine said.
Sora had a gloomy look on his face. He hated every moment of this. Parting ways with his two best friends, his gang and also... well everything.
Rikku slowly slipped her tiny hand into Sora's. Sora took her hand and walked with Rikku by his side.
'... should I tell him?' Rikku thought as she walked with her three best friends.
-Outside Dusk High-
Terra, Sora's father, and a successful businessman who runs a software company, was waiting for his son and nephew. Spotting the two boys with Rikku and Paine, Terra called on them.
"There you are."
"Dad..." Sora said. "Can we reconsider this?"
"Sora, I told you." Terra said ruffling Sora's spiky hair. "I have to establish a business in Dawn City."
"Guess there's no arguing then."
"Cheer up, son. Well, everyone get in. We drop off Rikku and Paine and get to the moving business."
As Terra was driving his luxurious car to Rikku's house...
"Excited, Roxas?" Terra asked.
"I know Sora is not." Roxas said looking behind the front seat. Sora was sitting in between Rikku and Paine. His brunette haired cousin was trying to comfort Rikku, who had again started crying as it was not long before she splits up with Sora.
"Rikku, it's alright... Shh..." Sora said patting Rikku's back.
"Rikku, we will visit now and then." Terra said. "Trust me, young lady. You'll see my Brownie again."
Upon hearing Terra's statement, Rikku slightly smiled. She loved it when Terra would tease Sora by calling him by the nickname 'Brownie'.
"Hear that, Rikku? Not the 'Brownie', but before that. We will visit!" Sora tried cheering up the blonde, who nodded her head understandingly.
"Okay..."
Soon they reached Rikku Rodriguez's house. Rikku and Paine got out of the car.
"Bye, Sora. Bye, Roxas. And you too, Mr Young." Paine said.
"Bye P." Sora said.
Roxas with a bye too.
"Take care, Paine. Give our regards to your folks. You too, Rikku." Terra said.
Rikku and Paine nodded.
Sora got out of the car and shared a hug with Rikku and Paine altogether.
"Bye, you too..." Sora said, sounding very broken.
"Take care, Spikes. I'll... I'll miss you." Paine said.
"Sora..." Rikku whispered his name softly.
"We'll see each other again. I promise, guys." Sora said and pulled away from the hug she shared with the two girls. Rikku leaned forward and kissed Sora's cheek softly.
"... bye, Sora."
"Bye, Rikku..." Sora said. He exchanged a nod with Paine and got into the car.
"Call us when you get there, Sora!" Paine said as the car started to leave.
"I will!" Sora shouted back.
Just like that, the three Youngs left into the horizon, leaving a broken-hearted Rikku behind, who started crying.
"All that's left is to pick up Aqua." Terra said as he now drove to what was going to be their former home.
"I called the moving guys, they got all the things we need back home and are ready to follow." Roxas informed.
"Sora, once in a while you could try to be responsible like Roxas." Sora nodded. He actually had his mind on Rikku's behaviour, and how hard it was to see her cry like that. Of course, he was a bit relieved that Paine would take care of the blonde, but still...
"You okay?" Roxas asked, turning back to face his cousin.
"Yeah... it's just... seeing her cry... it was hard." Sora said, staring outside the car window. "I'm really gonna miss those two..."
"It'll pass. Don't worry." Roxas said and turned back.
The three then reached the former mansion of the family minutes later.
Aqua, Sora mother and a professional lawyer, joined her beloved son in the back seat. The blue haired woman noted the sadness in her son's face. "Honey? What is wrong?" Aqua asked.
"Huh? Oh... it's just... I'm really miss Paine and Rikku."
"Oh honey..." Aqua hugged her son. "It will be alright, Sora. Trust me. You will see them again. You have my word."
Sora nodded.
"Alright then. Let's go." Terra said, as so started the journey of the Young family to the city of Dawn.
All the way, Sora was listening to his I-Pod. He opened his eyes to find Dawn City outside the window. "We're here already!?" he asked in a extremely nervous manner.
"Geez. You must've heard four hours worth of songs." Roxas said at the brunette, who was looking around checking the new city they were about to settle in.
"For God's sake, relax Sora. We only start school tomorrow." Sora was a bit relieved after hearing that from Roxas.
"That's right, honey." Aqua said while reading the monthly fitness magazine she reads.
'Oh yeah. We only start school tomorrow. That's a relief, I can prepare myself.' Sora thought. At the very moment, Sora's phone started ringing. He checked the caller ID.
"It's Rikku!" Sora said with a huge smile, and quickly answered the call. "Rikku! Uh, hey! It's only been four hours."
"Hey, Sora. I… I missed you." She said a bit shyly. Sora smiled.
"What? She confessed or something?" Roxas playfully asked as he checked out Sora's expression. Sora punched his cousin at his shoulders lightly.
"Okay, okay! Carry on. Heh…" Roxas smirked.
"Rikku, look. I'll call you often, okay? Don't be sad." Sora said.
"I know..." Rikku said. "S-Sora? There's... there's something... I have to tell you." Rikku said.
"Yeah?" Sora asked.
"Um... well... Err..." Rikku kept stuttering.
"You alright, Rikku?" Sora asked the girl.
"W-What? Oh, y-yeah. I'm alright. Just... take care of yourself, okay?" Rikku sounded very worried.
"I will. You take care of yourself too, alright?"
"Okay... Hold on, Paine wants to talk." Rikku said. Then, Sora heard Paine, the first friend he made in his life.
"Sora, it's Paine. Don't mind her. Still depressed from you leaving." Paine said.
"Heh. What about you? You're depressed or something?" Sora asked jokingly.
"Maybe... Okay fine, I am. I'll miss your goofing, and that spiky head of yours."
"Huh? Well that's wonderful I guess." He said.
"Sora, we'll talk later. I've got a bit of a situation here... Just... never mind. Take care." Paine said.
"Okay... bye, Paine. Tell Rikku we'll each other soon.
"Okay. Bye, Sora."
"Bye..." Sora said, and ended the call.
-Later at the 'new' Young Mansion-
Many men were being instructed by Terra and Aqua on the arrangements of the furniture. Roxas and Sora found their way to the poll in the back of the mansion. "Looks good, huh?" Roxas asked as he sat down on a bench. "This would work out just fine, Sora. Trust me." Roxas said.
"Yeah..." Sora said, taking a seat beside his cousin. Roxas lost his parents in a car accident at a very young age. His father's younger sister, Aqua, took him in the family with pleasure, loving him almost as equal with Sora. The two boys were more like brothers, as they were very close with each other. Sora was the athletic one, while Roxas was the intellect part of the two.
Sora held an outstanding reputation back at Dusk High School, and Roxas was quiet popular himself. Sora was the star of the school since he was captain of soccer team, but not anymore though.
'Wonder who's gonna get my spot...' Sora thought on who would be the new captain. 'Wakka... yeah. He definitely should go for it.'
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Roxas asked.
"Oh, nothing big."
"Well, I'm off to check my room. You should do the same." Roxas said.
"Yup, you're right."
"And don't forget! Prepare yourself for a new school."
Sora sighed. "Right..."

New readers, please note that the earlier chapters are in the process of rewriting, so most of them would be lame, I think.
