Chapter 1: The Beginning
Draco Malfoy awoke one Saturday morning and realized the dormitory was empty. He was late for breakfast. He quickly got dressed and ran down to the Great Hall. When he arrived there, he ran up to his two best friends, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. "Hi, guys!" He said, grinning, broadly. They looked up, blankly. "Er...hi..." Crabbe said. Draco noticed a strange tone in his voice. Something wasn't right. "What's the matter? Don't you recognize me?" He joked, laughing slightly. Crabbe looked at him, blankly. "To tell you the truth," He said, "no, I don't." Draco laughed. "Very funny!" He said, grinning, "very clever! 'Specially for you, Crabbe!" Crabbe raised an eyebrow. "How do you know my name?" He asked. Draco's smile faltered. "Come on, now, Crabbe, that's enough. Quit fooling around." He said. "Who's fooling around?" Crabbe asked, quite seriously, "Who are you, anyway?" Draco began to feel slightly scared. What was going on? "Crabbe, it's me, your friend, Draco!" He said, trying to keep his voice steady. "What, have you got amnesia or something?!" Crabbe shook his head. "No." He said, seriously. "To be honest, I've never seen you before in my life." Draco's eyebrows raised in shock. The other Slytherins, and a few other students were staring at Draco, as though they had absolutely no idea who he was. And that seemed to be the case. Up at the teacher's table, McGonagall stood up. "Would somebody like to tell me what exactly is going on over there?" She called. "Looks like we got a new student, Professor!" Pansy Parkinson called back. McGonagall raised a heavily pencilled eyebrow. Draco scowled.
"I'm not a new student!" He said, frantically, "I'm Draco Malfoy, I've been going to this school for four years!" "I'm sorry, young man," McGonagall said, "But I'm afraid we do not currently have a student here by that name. And, if I'm not mistaken, we never have."
