It was dawn. The village was completely silent as everyone gathered in the center of the village for the drawing. It was time for the Hunger Games. Kagome Higurashi made her way through the dense crowed of people with her little brother Sota by her side. She was nervous; this was the first time Sota's name was put into the drawing. Kagome's eyes shifted vigorously, looking for a familiar face. Suddenly, she spotted him; Hojo.

Hojo stood there silently, his face showing no emotion. Kagome slowly made her way over to him as she dragged Sota by the hand along with her. "It's about to start," he whispered.

Kagome looked down at Sota; she didn't want him to be picked. "I know, I just hope Sota's name isn't called."

Hojo shook his head. "His name is only in there once. I am most likely going to be picked over him," he sounded so sad.

Kagome quickly took his hand. "Don't talk like that!" she hissed quietly.

Kagome's long raven colored hair whipped around in the wind. She wore the red and white priestess uniform, and had her bow and arrows with her. Hojo was about to say something when Kaede spoke up.

"We all know why we are gathered here today, so let us begin," she preached. A wooden basket was placed on the ground, and in that basket were the names of everyone in the village. Kaede slowly reached in, and pulled out a slip of parchment with her slender, boney fingers. Gently, she unfolded it, and read the name aloud. "Inuyasha!" she called.

Everyone gasped at the name. Inuyasha was the half dog demon that lived in the village. He was well respected because he protected the village from demons, but the villagers always felt uneasy about him. Kagome searched the crowed for the hanyou. Kagome knew him as a child, but she hasn't seen him since then. Her gaze finally landed on the silvered hair hanyou as he made his way to the front of the crowed.

He had long silver hair, his bangs hung just above his eyes. He wore a deep red kimono, and had a sword strapped to his side. His clawed hands rested at his side as he nonchalantly stood next to Kaede. He looked at the crowed with his deep amber colored eyes as Kaede went to pick out the next name.

Kagome held her breath. "Please," she thought "don't let her call Sota's name!"

Sota clung to Kagome's side as Kaede began to unfold the parchment. She then read the name aloud. "Sota Higurashi!" she called.

Kagome's worst fear had become a reality. Tears began to stream down her face as she looked down at her brother who looked helplessly at her. Kaede noticed this, and sent a few of the village men to go and retrieve the boy. The men roughly grabbed him and tried to carry him off, but Kagome fought back, she didn't know what else to do.

"No!" Sota yelled. "Kagome don't let them take me!" He kicked and screamed as they dragged him away.

Kagome knew what she had to do, even if she was risking her own life it would spare his. "I volunteer!" she yelled. "I volunteer as tribute!"
