Shadow of Myself

Shadow of Myself

[A/N:  This is, big surprise, another poem from Rachel's POV.  I know it has a lot of Living a Lie in it, as well as Sitting Quietly There, but it's not your imagination, since I wrote them all around the same time.]

Fading slowly, falling away from myself,
Leaving the aftertaste of who I once was,
Who was I, this stranger in the mirror?
Who am I, this strange face staring back at me?

Who was the girl, in those bright pictures,
Who was the girl, who stared back at me?
Who is that girl, who could freely laugh once,
Without any stains on her soul.

I used to be a young child,
Full of laughter, dreams, and love,
Now my innocence has left me,
Without anything to say.

Who was the girl, that I used to be,
A youth without any guilt,
Able to laugh, without any tears,
A vivid, photo in color?

Lies that peel away from me,
Words that emptily fade,
Shallow laughter, broken dreams,
Shadows of who I was.

Colors have gone and faded,
Dreams have melted away.
What used to be black and white,
Has only become shades of gray.

And the silence folds around me,
Massing around my soul,
Staying with me, never leaving me,
And so I remain standing quietly there,
A shadow of who I was.
