In this fair garden

Wayfaring souls come and go

For a moment of respite

Far from the harsh city lights

That glare like a predator's gaze

Far from the vast sea of legs

That obscure the way back home

Far from the strewn rubbish scraps

Remnants of wasteful human life

Instead

Soft breeze

Fresh grass

Supple meals

A second home

Companionship

And the kindest of hearts at the helm

In this fair garden

Cats of all colours

Creeds

Callings

Can rest at ease

And one day

Show their new friend

That they appreciate their efforts

To take them from the

Chaos

Carnage

Volatility

And restore a little

Calm

Quiet

Safety

As the night shrouds the garden in its blanket

A cat finds a soft spot

Stretches, sinks down

And for once

Feels at rest.
