Hey everyone! Here is a New Year's fic for Rufus x Sheryl. It's based on the prompt "We've been fighting but the clock struck midnight and kissing you so that we don't start the new year on a fight felt like a good idea." from a list of prompts by Plinys on Tumblr.

"You're crazy, Rufus!" Sheryl Rainsworth yelled at Rufus Barma.

"Thou art the crazy one, Sheryl!" He yelled back. He glared down at her. They were fighting as usual. They were currently at a New Year's Eve gala. Rufus had run into Sheryl, and within minutes they were arguing. In order not to disturb the other guests, they had went out on the balcony to argue. Sheryl always had a way of drawing him into an argument. It drove him crazy that she had so much power over him. Though, he had to admit that he admired how passionate she could be.

"Sheryl, I think we should go back in." A man said as he walked over and placed his arm on her shoulder.

"Rufus, I feel that it would be best to go back in as well." His valet Calum stated.

"No! That vixen and I shall finish this here and now! Unless thou admits she's wrong." Rufus said, challenging Sheryl.

"I am not wrong!" She yelled back.

Calum and the man with Sheryl sighed. "Then we shall leave you to fight." Calum said as he bowed and turned to leave.

The man looked at Sheryl. The angry, determined aura surrounding her told him that she would not leave until the fight was over. "I'll leave too, but please come in soon. It's almost midnight."

She turned to him and smiled. "Don't worry. This fight will be over soon." She said. She then turned back to Rufus. After the man left, they went back to fighting.

"Thou shouldst just surrender." Rufus stated as he towered over her.

"I will never lose to you, Rufus!" She yelled back as she moved closer to him.

Being so close to her now made him wonder how he had never noticed how sweet she smelled. It was the smell of lavender mixed with honey. He also never noticed how her nostrils flared when she was mad. And how had he failed to notice how pink her lips were? They also looked so soft. He began to lose focus as he stared at them. He could hardly even remember what the fight had first been about now. "Well, I-" He began.

The sound of a bell ringing silenced them. Fireworks went off, and everyone yelled "Happy New Year!"

Sheryl poked his chest. "Thanks a lot, Rufus! I missed my ki-" Sheryl exclaimed angrily. Before she could finish her sentence, she felt something press against her lips.

Rufus had leaned down and kissed her. He hadn't expected the same lips that spouted insults and curses at him to taste like something as sweet as honey. He hadn't expected the woman he considered to be cold-hearted to have warm cheeks. He placed in hands on them and pulled her closer. He also hadn't expected his heart to feel like it was going to burst out of his chest.

When he pulled away from her, Sheryl reached up and touched her lips. "Rufus, wh-what?" She stuttered.

He didn't really have an answer. He thought it was a good idea in the moment. For some reason, as the bells and fireworks rang in the new year, he didn't feel like fighting with her anymore. He couldn't really explain it.

"Um, Happy New Year, Sheryl!" He yelled as he pulled out a confetti popper and fired it at her. He then turned and ran inside.

"Rufus!" She yelled as she chased after him.

Calum and Sheryl's date watched as they ran through the crowd. They both turned to each other and sighed. It may be a new year, but Sheryl and Rufus were up to the same old things.
