The sky was a brilliant deep blue, dotted with fluffy white clouds. It was breezy, the grass and wildflowers dancing in the wind. We lay together on the soft ground, bodies entwined, basking in the warm spring air. It was a perfect day to be in our meadow.

"HEY! Jacob!" Renesmee shrieked and giggled, jumping away from the giant wet tongue that had suddenly come in contact with her face. The giant russet wolf attached to said tongue barked a laugh at Nessie's reaction as well as the position Edward and I were in- we had jumped at the sound of our daughter's voice and now we were a tangle of limbs.

I detached myself from Edward, glaring at Jacob for taking me out of my almost-sleeping state. He continued to grin unabashedly.

"He says he'll be good," Edward murmured, but his eyebrows were raised as if to say Yeah, right.

"I'll believe that when I see it," I said, rolling my eyes. Jacob was quite the prankster, as had become apparent just a few days after our encounter with the Volturi. When the danger was gone, the stress and anxiety absent, it was easier to joke around. But seeing as Nessie never went anywhere without her Jacob, and I hardly went anywhere without her, it was getting a bit old.

"Jake won't do it again," Nessie promised, grinning at him. She sat down and leaned her head against him, closing her eyes and absentmindedly threading her tiny fingers through his fur.

I lay back down as well, wanting to get back to that precious state of peace. I closed my eyes.

Thud.

"Mmph! Mmm! Mmm!" I suppressed a groan, propping myself up on my elbow to see what he'd done this time. Then my mouth dropped open and my eyes got wide. I didn't know whether to shriek at him or laugh hysterically.

Jacob had rolled so he was on his back, all four of his huge paws in the air, tail wagging and tongue hanging out. Renesmee was nowhere in sight, but you could hear her wordless screaming nearby.

She was underneath him.

Great. A werewolf was squishing my daughter.

I got up to rescue her, crossing the space at human speed. Hey, it's not like she was going to suffocate.

Shove. He didn't budge, obviously enjoying this. Shove. Nothing.

"Jake, do you really want to end up a werewolf shish kebob on one of these trees?"

The huge beast groaned dramatically, really more of a laugh then a groan, and rolled back over reluctantly.

"Ew! Gross, Jake!" Nessie stood up, spluttering and spitting out fur. Edward, from his position on the grass next to where I had been, chuckled to himself. I had to admit, it was hilarious.

"You okay?" I asked, suppressing giggles.

"Peachy."
