Soulful Songs
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or the song.
"Natsuhiboshi naze akai…" (Summer star, why are you red?)
Sesshomaru paused in his march across his lands at the sound of a girl's voice drifting with the wind. He tilted his head up to hear it better. This voice… sounds familiar. Bright blue eyes flashed through his mind and he turned around to walk toward the voice.
"Yuube Kanashii yume wo mita…" (Last night I had a sad dream…)
The scent of lilies and jasmine wafted to him and he increased his pace minutely, his eyes narrowed fractionally. She shouldn't be out here - the baka hanyou must have done something to her again.
"Naite hanashita…" (Crying as I talked…)
He paused at the edge of a clearing, the song becoming louder than before. A girl sat on a boulder in the middle of the clearing, gazing up at the starts and swaying slightly to the beat of her song.
"Akai me yo..." (Oh, red eyes…)
Her long black hair bellowed slightly in the breeze and the taiyoukai watched as the moonlight shone down on her eyes, bringing out the hints of silver. His mouth opened slightly in awe at the sight. How can a human… appear so beautiful to even this Sesshomaru?
"Natsuhiboshi naze mayou…" (Summer star, why are you lost?)
Her eyes closed as she swayed to her song, a small smile gracing her lips, making Sesshomaru focus on them. How the hanyou could take the clay corpse over the female in front of him, he could never know.
"Kieta warashi wo saga shiteru…" (You are searching for we who disappear…)
Sesshomaru stood at the edge of the clearing captivated by her voice and her appearance. As he heard the song coming to a close, he snapped out of his stupor and put on his emotionless mask again. It wouldn't do to have this slip of a girl think that he had a heart.
"Dakara kanashii yume wo miru…" (That's why I have sad dreams…)
She continued humming the melody for a moment before she opened her eyes, wiping away the few tears that had escaped. "Inuyasha-no-baka…"
"Miko." She started and quickly stood from her position on the boulder, whirling around to face him. Electric blue clashed with hardened amber and she took a step back in fear. "What are you doing so far from your companions?"
She looked down before meeting his eyes again, more confident now. "Your half-brother took it upon himself to liken me to his undead lover, so I decided to have some time to myself before I did something I would regret." She bowed at the waist slightly to show respect for him. "I apologize if I have bothered you in some way, Sesshomaru-sama."
His respect for her heightened and he turned away. "Come. This Sesshomaru will escort you to your companions." He saw felt the confusion in her aura and paused in walking away to turn back to her with cold eyes. "Make no mistake, Miko - you are too valuable a part in the fight against Naraku for me to let you die out in the wilderness."
She nodded and quickly followed him in the direction of her camp, silent since she knew that Sesshomaru would not tolerate mindless rambling. The taiyoukai glanced at her from the corner of his eye as they entered the forest again. She was… tolerable, but only when silent.
He left her close to her camp so that she would be able to find her own way back and made to return to his camp. She was a would-be ally, nothing more - she was human after all.
AN: Wow... it's been so long since I've written a pure Sess/Kag, even if they don't actually end up together in this. ; Anyway, I'm not sure if I should continue this or not, so for now, it's a oneshot. Review and tell me what you think and if I should add another chapter or two, please! Thank you all for reading!
