Blind Disdain will be updated once I finish Separated Souls, which, the final chapter is sometime soon.
Until then, I wanted to write something new. I kept thinking, and I got this idea.
Lots of twists and turns, too.
Enjoy!
Leaning over the rail of the boat, I sighed softly.
I was bored, and being out on the water didn't help. Of course, though, my older brother, Keiji, had come along. I chalked up my boredom to being around him.
"Come on, Yami. Smile for once. It's why I brought you out here," Keiji says, coming next to me, "I thought you liked the sea."
"I do. When I'm alone," I sighed.
"You and you being alone. You really need to put yourself out there more, or you're never going to find someone," Keiji said.
"And who says I want to, Mr. Flirt-with-anything-that-moves?" I asked.
"Hey. I do not do that. Elliot and I are very happy together," Keiji huffed.
"Yes, but, you did it before you met him," I said, a smile playing on my lips.
"That was before. I'm different, now," Keiji said, lightly shoving my shoulder.
"So you say," I giggled.
"Although it didn't go like I wanted, I got you to smile," Keiji said.
"That was your goal?" I asked incredulously.
"Yep," Keiji chuckled. He walked off, and I sighed, shaking my head. I looked out to the water again, and I saw something go into the water. I leaned closer. A head popped out of the water, and smiled at me.
"Hey there," he smiled.
"Wh-Who are you?" I asked.
"I saw you were bored. Do you want to play with me?" he asked.
"Do you need help? I can get you up here," I said.
"No no. I'm fine down here. Do you want to play with me?" the man asked.
"How?" I asked.
"Easy. Either you jump down here, or, throw something, and we can play catch," he said. Before I could respond, Keiji came over again.
"Who are you talking to, Yami?" he asked.
'I...uh, what's your name?" I asked, turning back to him, but his head had disappeared.
"Yami, are you feeling okay?" Keiji asked.
"I'm feeling fine. I saw someone in the water. I swear," I said.
"Are you sure? I think we should head back home, though, just to be on the safe side," Keiji said. He walked away, and when he was gone, the man's head popped up again.
"Sorry. I only want people to see me who I want to see me. But, seeing as you're going home, why don't you meet me tonight, on the beach?" he asked.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Atem. What's yours?" he asked.
"Yami. Why do you want to meet me?" I asked.
"You seem interesting, is all," he shrugged. The boat started to move, and Atem started moving with it.
"So, tonight?" I said.
"Yeah. On the beach. Unless, you want to meet somewhere else?" Atem suggested.
"No, the beach is fine. I love it, especially at night," I smiled.
"Well, then, it's perfect. Don't wear anything that you don't want to get wet, alright?" Atem said.
"Okay. See you then," I said.
"See ya," Atem said, going back into the water.
That night, I carefully left the castle. I had been sneaking out for a long time, but, whenever it was raining, I always had to be extra careful, to make sure my footprints weren't too deep. If they were, I had to either mess them up or cover them before coming back. I went to the beach, and I saw a head and torso out of the water, a ways away. When I stepped into the water, the person turned, and started coming towards me.
"Hey," the person said. "You came, even with all this rain."
"Yeah. I said I''d come, and, I did," I said, walking out further. The water was soon up to my waist. Atem came closer to me.
"Do you like rain?" he asked.
"Sometimes," I shrugged.
"I love it. Mainly because I can come out of the water, but I won't die if I do," Atem said. I looked at him.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Ah, nothing. Maybe you shouldn't have come out tonight. It's too cloudy to see anything," Atem sighed.
"No, it's fine," I assured Atem. The only thing that wasn't fine, and that was scaring me, is that the water seemed to be getting rougher. Like it wanted to drag me under.
"So, what are you, exactly? Just another guy or are you-"
"A prince, actually. But, I hate my title," I sighed.
"I don't like mine, either. My brother always gets on me about acting like a prince, too, but, I couldn't care less. Hell, he'll get the throne first, in any case, so, why should I care?" Atem sighed.
"You're a prince, too?" I asked.
"Yeah," Atem said.
"Your older brother sounds a lot like mine," I said.
"Do you want to go deeper?" Atem asked.
"Why?" I asked.
"The sand. I hate the feeling of it. It's too uneven for me to stand on," Atem said.
"I...I don't know. The water's pretty rough because of the storm," I said.
"I'll hold on to you. It'll be fine," Atem assured.
"If you're sure," I said. Atem grabbed onto my arm, and we started to move forward. Soon, I couldn't feel the sand under my feet anymore, and the water was getting rougher.
"D-Don't let go," I said.
"I won't. Promise," Atem smiled.
"How are you able to swim in such rough water?" I asked.
"It's all natural. But, I guess, when I was much younger, I had a had time with it," Atem said.
"Did your brother help you then?" I asked.
"Yeah. Mom and Dad were always busy, so, it was mainly Aeron that took care of me," Atem said.
"It was the same with my brother. My brother's a bit overprotective of me, but, most of the time, I don't mind it," I said.
"Same here," Atem chuckled. A wave went over us, and I was briefly underwater. Atem pulled me up, and I coughed out the water.
"Are you alright?" Atem asked.
"Fine," I coughed. Another wave hit us, and my arm almost slipped away from Atem. Atem pulled me up again, and started to bring me back to where I could touch. Once I could, Atem didn't let go of me, until the water was at my waist again. I started walking, and was almost out of the water, when Atem let go.
"Are you going to be okay getting back?" Atem asked.
"I'll be fine. Will I see you again?" I asked.
"Yeah. Maybe sometime," Atem smiled. Before I could ask when, I wated him dive back into the water.
Dive.
Atem didn't have legs. I kept watching, and when he was farther away, he dove in again.
Atem didn't have legs.
He had a tail.
I fell back onto the sand. Atem was a merman.
I got up, dusted myself off, and started home. I had to be careful that Keiji didn't see me, or he'd go into overprotective mode.
No wonder Atem didn't want Keiji to see him earlier. But, that still begged the question why Atem wanted to see me.
So, what did you think?
Until chapter 2!
