Mentor:

Oswin was overcome with fear for the first day of her new job. It wasn't as if she was going to be fired and lose money, but it was something she rather looked forward to since she was initially put forward for it by her own mentor at work. She was able to manage her voluntary job as a cyber mentor on top of her paid work being an entertainer and motivational speaker for children who hadn't had the best experiences. She'd always taken an interest in childcare and teaching, so if she could do both whilst helping people and feeling good about it, why not? She knew cyber mentoring opened her up to of a much bigger world, though. Older children, young children, young adults, even older adults with a range of issues from name calling to medical problems to mental disorders and people on the brink of killing themselves.

What if she gave the wrong advice? What if she got it wrong?

Though, she had to stay anonymous- she was allowed a username- s0ufflegirl, she went for, very personal to her. That just to make sure if someone wanted a specific mentor, they could request it under their own anonymous username. She didn't see the point apart from needing her mentor login, no-one would ever request her specifically anyway, she thought.

She took a breath and logged into her new mentor account, opening it up to speak to someone new. She was definitely excited to speak to the first person and if she was able to dish out some good support or advise, even better. She watched her screen as she was connected to her first recipient. The username she was presented with was b0wtiesarec0ol, which presented her the ability to stifle a laugh and loosen up a bit- she'd be fine, it was only cyber mentoring, she was doing it for a good cause.

This user confirmed himself as a male, not much older than Oswin herself. Although it was anonymous there was an option of basic details and if they were in a life threatening situation, further details could always be obtained but it really was a last resort. The user being the almost same age as her made her feel more comfortable; maybe she could understand the issue either.

B0wtiesarec0ol: I don't particularly want advice, just someone to talk to.

It was determined quickly that this user had been forced to speak to her by multiple bosses at his work and unwanted childhood shadows, none of which he was particularly fond of, but his old social worker even got in touch and threatened to have him sectioned if he refused. They claimed he'd ultimately go mad if he had nobody to talk to, he was so alone.

B0wtiesarecool: I lost my parents, I've lost my family, all of them. It seems I'm a target because of it, I got put up to this, to talk- I'm almost certain they all hate me.. Social workers- the enemy. I've never really followed every rule, but it's saved a few live. I'm the Doctor.

Oswin felt a little sink in her stomach- she knew what it was like to lose someone close- but a small smile formed across her face. Talking, she could talk. And she could empathise, in ways. It just sounded like he needed rescuing, cheering up and that was her day job. Maybe it would be easier than she thought.
