I was really, really annoyed when they killed off Nick Cutter, especially as there was so little fuss after it like there was with Stephen; so this was written in revenge. I know it's a bit behind the times but you know what exams are like!

Diclaimer: I don't own Primeval; if I did the animals would be scientifically accurate, the good characters would all be alive and Becker would be all mine!

Behind the Scenes

Thud!

Helen Cutter watched with satisfaction as the tranquiliser dart slammed into the neck of her estranged husband. Professor Nick Cutter looked at her in surprise for an instant before his eyes rolled back inside his head and he collapsed in a heap, narrowly missing a sparking cable. The woman stalked over and checked for a pulse; satisfied, she started searching around for something hidden in the rubble. She gave a suppressed cry of joy as she spotted the familiar jacket and unwrapped it to reveal: the Artifact!

A scraping noise sounded behind her, causing her whirl around and pull a second pistol from a leg holster. She relaxed as she spotted her Cutter clone stumbling towards her. It looked in a bad way; it was bleeding, caused by a shrapnel wound to the chest. Helen estimated it only had ten minutes or so left; which gave her an idea.

"Listen to my voice" she ordered the clone. "You will exchange clothes with this man [pointing to the unconscious Cutter]. Listen to my voice." The woman waited as the copycat did as she ordered, noting the deep wound it displayed.

"Cutter!" she heard a faint voice call. It sounded like that geek... Connor wasn't it? Looking down at the Artifact, she came up with yet another brilliant (according to her) idea: she would let the kid find out what it was, then steal it back! Grinning smugly, she turned back to the clone.

"Listen to my voice. You will stay here and wait until the boy finds you. You will convince him to wait with you until you die. You will give him this," she handed it the Artifact, "and you will ask him to find out what it does. You will obey. Listen to my voice."

Helen looked it in the eye, making sure it understood the instruction, before forcing it to lie down, leaning slightly against a fallen pillar.

"Cutter!" the call came again, louder and closer. The woman looked up in alarm at how close the kid was; she needed to move fast. She slung the real Nick Cutter over her shoulder, glad of the muscles built up living in the prehistoric world. She shifted the limp body until it was secure, and then pulled a small, black device out of her pocket. She pressed the large red button and stood back as an anomaly shimmered into life. One last glance around, then she stepped through with her valuable cargo.

The anomaly winked out of existence seconds before Connor stepped around the corner.
