Just a little painful drabble that came to mind. Interpret it as you wish.
Beep beep beep
The steady beat of a heart monitor sounded through out the room.
One two three
The respirator counted as it allowed it's captive to breath.
I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry
Whispers met with dried tears.
A year had passed. One terrible and frightful year. Dick sat there, remembering as he listened the sounds.
Bang
One bullet through Red Robin's heart
Bang
One bullet in Batman's stomach
Bang
One bullet damaging Robin's brain
Bang
One bullet splattering the Joker's brains on the wall.
Everything had happened so fast. Red Hood had called needing back up. When they had arrived, The Joker didn't waste any time putting bullets into Batman, Red Robin, and Robin. Red Hood had used his last dying breath to shot the Joker. Red Hood was already dead. there was no recovering from the injuries. Red Robin died instantly. Batman coughed out a goodbye before dying. Robin was already unconscious and dying. He was rushed to a hospital. That was a year ago.
Dick stayed by Damian's side as much as possible. After all Damian was all he had left. Damian was comatose with no signs of recovering
"I'm sorry Damian. I failed all of you," Dick said
"It's okay Grayson. I forgive you. I already have." Damian responded.
Dick looked up as a doctor walked in.
"It's been a year Mr. Grayson. I suggest we pull the plug. For your health and to end his suffering," The doctor said.
"I am not suffering," Damian scoffed
"Is there really no hope that he'll recover?" Dick asked
"We've tried everything," The doctor said.
"Not the Lazarus pit fool," Damian said.
"Alright. Do it," Dick said. He stood up his hand slipping from Damian's.
"Grayson! No! Don't leave me here! Help me!" Damian pleaded.
For a moment the heart monitor spiked before going flat.
The respirator wheezed one last time before it was removed.
Damian screamed. He flailed and clawed at the bed he lay on, shouting for someone to save him. He gasped for air yet choked. It hurt. It burned. He yelled at Grayson for doing this to him.
Dick walked out of the white hospital room.
Everything was still.
