New fic... enjoy! (I haven't forgotten about S,OF... this plot bunny bit me and wouldn't let go!! hehe)

DI Alex Drake sat in deep thought totally oblivious to the rather loud, cheerful banter of her 'imaginary constructs'. Or are they? She couldn't help but to think. if they are all imaginary then how did Gene take my hand? How can he be a part of my past? How can he have met me before I had even 'constructed' him?

She wasn't sure if she was glad or disappointed that they were not in fact imaginary. Disappointed because it might make it harder to get home to Molly. Yet at the same time glad that they were real. Glad that he's real, she corrected herself. You know you couldn't care less about the others. Well, maybe Shaz, she reasoned. But you know it's him you are really happy about!

Alex sighed. She sometimes hated it when she was right. She sneaked a quick glance at the man in question and was surprised to find his crystal blue eyes staring back into hers. God I love those eyes. Well, more than just his eyes, she corrected herself.

'You alright, Bolls? You look as white as a ginger birds arse,' Gene asked with his usual rough demeanour but his eyes told a different story. She held his gaze once again and saw his mixed emotions; worry, happiness and something else. Something she couldn't quite pin down.

'Yeah,' she answered with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. She gently swivelled round the red liquid inside the glass before gulping down the rest of her wine.

'Good,' he replied, clicking his fingers, signalling for Luigi to come over. 'Then you'll be fine for another glass with yours truly,' Gene grinned over at his Bolly.

My Bolly? Gene thought. Bloody 'ell! When 'ad she become my Bolly? She'd never want this overweight, over-the-hill, nicotine stained, borderline alcoholic anyway. He inwardly sighed before asking Luigi to bring over another bottle of his house rubbish. Luigi nodded in acknowledgement before hurrying off to do what was asked of him.

Alex looked back at gene who was currently laughing at Chris and Ray, who were doing some 'trick' with a lighter and some vodka. He looks gorgeous when he laughs, she couldn't help but to think. God, why did I have to fall for him? Of all the people in the world; why him? She inwardly sighed before thanking Luigi for the wine. She took a large gulp of it as Gene once again turned his attention to her. She smiled at him, but then she noticed something over by the entrance to Luigi's.

The smile soon slipped off her face.
