Kakashi wanders the plains for a day and a night, watching what could well be the sun rise and fall. His father has gone on, 'To save you a space' were his exact words, and the Copy-nin is glad for that. His father does his duty, and now he is going off to do his.
Hatake Kakashi is looking for a revelation.
He overturns pebbles, wades through steaming strings and walks around trees deliberately. He tries not to use any jutsu, especially the gates; this is something Kakashi will do as a man, because he is human before a male, and male before a ninja, and ninja before a teacher. But before any of those, he is the White fang.
No, he must find the secret of the universe niggling in his heart. His minds smokes with the knowledge of the dead, Rin's luminous soul sparkling out of reach, ever waiting for him to rejoin her in the other-sky. But he walks ever on, never seeing a human, nor any other flesh-and-blood creature.
Still he searches, and another day passes.
It is then he realises that Obito's soul has yet to pass on to the dead realm. His old comrade is still, impossibly, alive.
But that is not his revelation.
Kakashi was sure, so very sure, that Tobi was the boy who have given his life for his. Who had given his eye for his. However, the ancient Uchiha Patriarch extinguished that fancy just by a notion of his spirit. Kakashi looked into that eye hole and saw not the eye of a gentle soul, but one of an iron leader.
And it is then, Kakashi realizes, that Tobi is the key. He thinks for a minute, screams in anger at losing hope, because the answer was so obvious. Masks are easy to craft... or copy. So are cloaks. So are hairstyles.
The last thought, the final revelation of Kakashi as he ascended to his final resting place...
... Whoever said that there was only one Tobi?
