The First Day: A New Mission
"Sooo... Why, exactly, are we here again?" Ezra brushed a layer of snowflakes off his shoulders and hair, nearly slipping on a patch of ice at the same time.
Sabine glanced back at him, blinked, and then directed a questioning gaze to Hera. "Didn't anyone tell him?"
The twi'lek pilot smiled. "Wanted to keep it a surprise."
"Keep what a surprise?" Grumbling as he tried to wipe more snow off his jumpsuit, Ezra didn't notice Kanan stepping up behind him until the man was cramming something onto the teen's head. "Hey-!"
"We always try to come to Jerusu this time of year, kid." He explained. "They have a twelve day celebration commemorating the birth of one of their greatest holy men, going back several centuries to long before they achieved space-flight. Nowadays, there's a lot of commercialization for off-world tourists, but we like to come visit anyway."
Ezra arched an eyebrow at him from under the fringe of his new white and red hat. "There's no other reason? Nothing Rebellion-related?"
"Nope. It's our one vacation a year, so you'd better enjoy it while you can!" That said, Kanan lengthened his stride a bit to catch up with Hera, letting Sabine fall back to join Ezra.
"Don't worry, I was just as confused about it last year," she confided. "Especially when they brought up the gift-giving thing."
"Gift-giving?"
"Yeah, we find little things in the markets that we think others on the Ghost would like, get 'em in secret, then do a big exchange on the final day of the celebration. Or earlier, depending on when we have to leave."
"Oh." Sabine had to stifle a grin at Ezra's suddenly concerned expression.
"You still have that credit stick Hera gave you, right?"
"In my boot-pouch, yeah."
"There should be plenty on it to get a few knick-knacks and things, maybe some candy too. We don't get much more for each other than that."
Already, though, Ezra was calculating how much was on the stick, what budget he had to spend on each member of the crew, and whether or not there was enough space in his assorted pockets to carry all the stuff...
If he had to get gifts for the crew that took him in, then by the stars he was going to get the best ones he could!
A/N: In honor of the holiday season, I decided to try my hand at this idea. Dunno if I'll manage to do an update a day, since, like everyone else I'd imagine, I have things to do and places to be over the next couple weeks. But! I can promise that this will be finished before my spring semester starts.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, folks!
