Chapter one
COMMANDERS POV
I looked down at the small glass bat in my hand lost in my thoughts. I only looked up when I heard the snick of the door closing as Yelena left.
My eyes followed the swirling magic caught inside as emotions passed through me. First there was disgust that my mother was a magician, wonder that I had two souls inside my body for all this time and then there was joy as I realised she had stayed with me after she had died for so long and denying peace in the sky. And now Yelena had given me a choice keeping her with as she struggled with my soul to be in control.
Hearing a knock on my door, I called out
"Come in"
Star came in with my lunch looking very annoyed; I guessed they had made her wait for my food again. Stoping myself from smiling I looked at star and asked her what had taken so long.
"Sorry sir, the keeps kitchen was busy making a feast for Yelena's return from the underworld today."
"You know how much I detest cold food"
"Sorry sir, this won't happen again I promise."
"Your dismissed star."
Watching star leave, my thoughts strayed back to the times of my childhood and always pretending to be a boy and having my family humour me. With a shock I realised that my mother had been in control all that time and my soul had only fully come out when I had killed the snow cat.
Looking around my office, I realised I needed someone to talk to. Wondering into the hallway beckoned one of messengers to come to me, and asked him to find Ari and Janco, Valeks second in commands, and ask them to find Valek and for him to report straight to me. With that the young boy nodded and left.
Sitting back down at my desk I looked down at my beef pie I had not yet touched and pushed it aside. Thinking about tonight's feast. Soon enough I heard the door open and saw Valek walk inside and take the chair in front of my desk. His face was a mask but his eyes held uncertainty in there depths.
"You asked for me commander?"
"Yes, Valek I did it's about time I told you something about myself."
