Chapter One- The Son's Decision
The warm summer air was the best time to be outside.
Away from his family.
As far as Darren knew, his parents had been fighting ever since he was born.
He leaned against the side wall of his house.
His favorite dark blue zip up sweatshirt was un-zipped and blowing in the wind.
His black t-shirt was clearly shown.
His blue jeans were ripped and had small patches of white paint on them from various fights and summer jobs painting houses.
"We can't afford a new school for him Sharon! If that little shit didn't get into a fight every day we wouldn't have this problem!" He heard his father yell.
"It isn't his fault! If he had a father around then maybe he could control his anger!" his mother shouted back at him.
Darren clenched his fist.
The anger inside of him swelled up.
The earth slowly shook.
All of this was his fault, he thought to himself.
Maybe he should just leave them.
They would be happier that way.
Darren began to calm down.
The earth became still again.
"Fine then...I leave tonight." he muttered to himself.
At 12am that night, Darren was already packing his things.
He packed a set of clothes in a sling over bag, along with his Acer Laptop, his switch blade, some cokes, and some crackers.
As he slung the bag around him he looked around his old room.
He knew for a fact he wouldn't be coming back.
With that thought, he left his room, walked slowly down the stairs, and out into the warm summer night.
