Me: Hi peoples. Sorry I haven't posted in a while.

Kumori: yeah, and this one isn't even about me. (makes pouty face)

Me: no it's not, because I seem to get writers block with you.

Kumori: you're always so mean to me.

Me: well you aggravate me.

Kumori: mnnn (sticks out tongue)

Me: that's it, please pause while I beat up Kumori.

*several painful fighting sounds later*

Me: sorry again, I am working on The Daughter of Night, but it's taking some time. And I hope this will keep you entertained for a bit. So go ahead and read.

Disclaimer: I do not own Death Note but I do own a Death Note! Bwa ha ha ha! (evil laugh!)

Karasu sat daydreaming in class about events of his life, first about his tenth birthday.

Karasu had never met his father and therefore resented him. Whenever he had asked his mom about his dad she had told Karasu that his father was a Shinigami. Karasu had wondered if she was joking, but knew she wasn't because of his blood red eyes and black dragon like wings.

The significance about this day was that his father had sent him a gift. It was a thick leather bracelet with obsidian pyramid studs circling its length. A note accompanied it that read:

Make sure you always wear this Karasu, for it shall protect you.

-Your Father

In his anger, Karasu had tried to burn it but his mother stopped him. "I know you don't like your father Karasu," she said to him, tying on the bracelet so he couldn't remove it, "but at least wear it for me."

So Karasu did. As it turns out, the bracelet did protect him. Even on the day he was meant to die.

Around the time he had first entered high school, his lifespan had run short, and so had his mother's. On the very day he and his mother were going to die they had been celebrating because Karasu had received a scholarship for collage. The two of them were wondering around town, Karasu keeping a close eye on his mother's dimming lifespan. Just a few more seconds when Karasu heard the sound of gunshots from behind, something slammed him in the back between his wings, forcing him to the ground. The bracelet from Karasu's father burned his wrist where it was tied. His mother fell to the ground shortly after him, and Karasu caught her watching the life fade from her eyes and the name above her head disappear. He held her close and cried, never letting go until paramedics pried her from him.

The shooter had already fled but not before Karasu had seen his name. A nurse came to check on Karasu, and found a smoking bullet hole in the back of his leather jacket. Not wanting her to find out how he survived Karasu made a run for it. Ducking inside an ally, Karasu spread his wings and took off into the night, tears still streaming from his eyes, and he vowed that he would hunt down his mother's killer.

Karasu's mind then returned to the classroom. Looking around to see if he had missed anything Karasu noticed Light Yagami staring out the window at something on the ground.

Me: sorry if it was a bit confusing. I was trying to explain some of Karasu's past for future surprises. Please review!
