Hit and Run

BRIIIIIING!

"Okay class, have a nice break. I hope you have something nice under your tree!" the teacher called as his young students raced out of the classroom into the snowy outdoors. Only one boy was left inside the room when everyone else had fled; he continued to put away his things at a sluggish pace.

Crap. That was the last bell of the day. Syaoran thought miserably. As he zipped up his bag the thirteen year old's eyes landed on a small box, no larger than the palm of his hand, which was wrapped in a powder pink paper that actually smelled of sakuras with a bright red bow on top of it. He'd had the present for over a week. It was for Sakura- perfectly platonic- as a thank you gift for helping with the Clow Cards. We were friends anyway right? Friends gave each other gifts. He'd already had this debate, which is why it's Saturday after school and he still had the gift and Sakura didn't.

For over a week he'd simply been too much of a coward to do it. And now? Now he was forced to either forget it ever happened and stuff the present in his closet or find Sakura and give it to her. Just as Syaoran stepped out into the front lot of the school, he froze.

There, clear as day was Sakura Kinomoto.

She hadn't left yet and actually stood talking to her longtime friend Tomoyo. He watched as her raven haired companion leaned over to whisper in Sakura's ear before pointing to me once. Sakura's green eyes flashed in realization and she even went as far as to do a fist pump. She would always be the same ditsy girl in his eyes no matter how many years passed. The young teen began to skip over to where Syaoran was standing, and he froze. Already? Was this finally it? He fidgeted anxiously and had to rub his hands against his jacket more times than anyone would be willing to admit. But finally-ten seconds later- Sakura was in front of him smiling the same overly happy smile as always.

"Hello, Syaoran-kun! Where have you been all week? I saw you in class and then you were gone…" She trailed off in thought. He laughed nervously. Did he forget to mention how he'd been avoiding her? Yes? Oh…

"I was just studying! You know, with all of the tests this week…" She nodded in agreement. This was getting awkward… He had to give it to her before she walked away!

Somewhere in the corner of his mind he noticed Tomoyo smirking in their direction.

He took in one last deep breath before shoving the small box into the unsuspecting girl's hand. "Here! Igotyouapresent!" He said quickly, cheeks tinted a pale rouge. She looked at the present, obviously confused, but appreciative all the same.

"Thank you?" He just nodded back, his head low.

"Well, I've go to um…go. Bye!" Syaoran called as he speedily walked away, leaving a confused Sakura in his wake.

"Merry Christmas!" Sakura called just as he rounded the gates, bringing a smile to the usually stoic boy's face.
