"Hard Sunshine"
It was a big beautiful world. A big, beautiful, empty world.
All Chell could see for miles was billowing waves of barely. The sky was lovely, blue struck through with white, but the only sound she could hear was the sound of the wind rushing through the stalks. The air was clean and cool, but it tasted like loneliness.
This had been planned, she thought as she sat on her companion cube with her legs folded underneath her and her boots on the ground nearby. She would gain her freedom, and then die of starvation surrounded by potential food, all alone. Yes, that had the ring of a genuine GlaDos plan. Chell let out a silent sight and ran a hand through her hair. She could let herself be distracted by the texture of the sun on her skin. After all, there was no way for her to really solve this problem herself. She had been trapped inside the Enrichment Center too long to have any survival skills beyond puzzle solving.
But at least for once she didn't have to be thinking in ten different directions at once. No one was trying to kill her (at least, not actively. Her predicament was fairly passive-aggressive as death plots go.) She had no puzzles to solve (except the one pertaining to what she was going to eat. Now that she was away from the air of Aperture, the nanotech in her bloodstream that usually dealt with such matters no longer worked.) But she put such things out of her mind for the moment.
She glanced over her shoulder at the door she had come from and tried not to think too hard about what had happened to her since she had woken up in the Aperture Science Extended Relaxation Center. You might have a very minor case of serious brain damage. She snorted quietly to herself at the memory.
"Yes, Wheatley. Let's see what the world thinks about my 'minor case of serious brain damage.'" She thought as she turned forwards towards the rustle of an approaching figure.
A/N: Yes, I am back from my long hiatus. Please hold your applause.
Portal has been a point of interest of mine for a couple of months now. (I was originally introduced to it by Hank Green of Hankplaysgames and Vlogbrothers fame.) I've almost beat the original Portal (Final battle with GlaDos. Yay.), and I've watched Hank play all the way through Portal 2. (Which I have every intention of buying when the price comes down.) It's a great game. :)
Also, it's worth noting that I don't imagine the earth that Chell wakes up to in Portal 2 as post apocalyptic earth. I imagine it with the human race still intact (my view is colored just a little bit by what I've read about the Half Life series.) I left this open ended for a reason. I might (might) write a sequel, but I also think it fits the flavor of the games. They don't like telling you everything that's going on.
At any rate, I'm on summer break now, so I might be writing a little bit more now. Enjoy, review, etc. (Sorry about the long author's note.)
Hugs and kisses

P.S. You can't tell in this, but I do ship Chell and Wheatley. ^.^
P.P.S. I know that technically she wasn't in a barely field, but when I was remembering the ending to Portal 2, I remembered it as a field with grain in it. I don't want to change it.
